I'm afraid I have some very sad news. Our friend Steve2 passed away yesterday.

I was going to ask the same thing Joe. Would you be able to

let her know how fond we all were of him and how much we will miss him here?

O, say it isn't so! I'm grateful to Steve 2 for his introduction

to KAF's pie filling enhancer (I love that stuff!), and of course, I will sincerely miss his wonderful recipes, wit and humor.

I was blessed to call him my Bread and Jam Mentor

Steve generously and patiently answered all of my questions in my trials and tribulations of baking bread and making jam. We would trade jams and he would gently critique mine for me. At one point, he had suggested that we meet to talk recipes, but I rather liked having him be that voice at the end of the keyboard. We continued our friendship over the past years. Each and every time I needed a recipe, he would graciously open his vast collection and send me several to try. A few months ago, I mentioned that I had noticed that his postings had waned and joked that I missed having a good laugh over his zingers. He wrote back and said that "someone had to keep us on our toes". In July, I sent him a T shirt from Boccalone (how could I pass up a tshirt with "Tasty Salted Pig Parts" for him?) and in his thank you card, he wrote, "I'll wear it with my "Cochon" hat from New Orleans, kind of a neo-kosher homage, just the thing for a curmudgeonly 61 year old like me!" Just the way that I would like to remember my dear friend. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Steve.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed his posts and wit. Didn't he have a cookbook?

Seems like I spoke with him once about it and he mailed me some recipes/ This was so many years ago and memory fads.

Yes he had a 2-volume cookbook called "Good Eatz." It started as a wedding gift to a friend but then

he self-published it.

I will definitely do that, and if I hear of any special requests I will pass them on. I'm not

comfortable sharing their address, or posting mine, and I don't have Merry's email, but if anyone would like me to forward a card or letter, contact me first: joe at long beach organic dot org.

Put "Steve2" in the title so I won't miss it and I will send you my address.

Thats right and I do believe he sent me a copy...wonder what happened to it

Will have to look in back of my books, sometimes the smaller ones slip out of line.

Didn't know him but its always sad to hear people go, especially when the've been so helpful

Steve was mentoring my eldest son, who is in college in Los Angeles. We exchanged...

...emails last month. He had taken medical retirement from Disney due to back problems, and had recently taken a nasty fall that incapacitated him. He was struggling quite a bit, but he always had time to help my son.

My son spent countless hours on the phone with him and Steve answered all of my son's questions with patience and wisdom, and, of course, his wicked wit! He gave my son a TON of great advice about the entertainment industry. He had so many years of experience, and he shared it all generously with a college kid just starting out.

We were going to have dinner at Napa Rose in California Adventure as soon as he was feeling better.

What a classy guy. I'm stunned, and in tears.

Godspeed, Sir.

Michael

Such a nice thing to share, thank you Michael. I always enjoyed his unique humore

and great recipes. A very caring person. I will miss him. smileys/frown.gif

Today, after the complete shock and sadness of losing Steve

at our little food family, I find myself smiling when I think of some of the things he has said. So that's what I'm going to do. One time we all received a very bizarre email from him that left us all scratching our head in puzzlement. It wasn't long before we found out the context but it sure made me laugh. I know many will remember what I referring to. I'll sure miss him.
