What kinda baby pooches, Michael?

Awwwwwwww......

OR, are there not really any poochies at your house? sniff, sniff.....

fitting a dog into your space.

Giant schnauz's are great dogs, but they are extremely high maintenance, especially with protecting people from their aggression. I went through that with my German Shepherd, great dog, just a lot of work and vigilance to keep them out of trouble. I have a friend with a Giant Schnauz and he has become very aggressive and territorial. It's a constant headache.

There are lots of dog/owner quizzes you can take about your lifestyle and preferences and they'll match you up with a dog breed. It really works. I got matched up with a dachshund and the little guy has been a joy because he totally fits into the house lifestyle (and because he's the sweetest, cuddliest, and fuzzy-faced teddy bear in the world).

However, note that while you can exercise a dachsund by sitting and throwing a tennis ball (they'll never stop), be aware that throwing over long distances on blacktop is not a good idea. My little guy broke his leg last weekend with a flying midair ball snatch followed by a splat on the blacktop.

Puppies in casts are no fun : (

We have a Miniature Schnauzer...

They are great dogs! At least ours is. She doesn't bark much like most Schnauz's do! She's so loving and great and the mini's REALLY don't take up much space! smileys/smile.gif

Oh, what a sweetie! Attached is photo of Schnauzer Bowzer (Lexi) with my granddaughter, Keiley Grace, Christmas 2004.

Dogs are great! So are grandkids! smileys/smile.gif

Thx Ang...

They are the best of friends! Of course Keiley looks nothing like this anymore, having just turned 2. Lexi, on the other hand, has lost about 5 lbs since this picture was taken. She had to be on a special dogfood for awhile and gained a lot of weight. She's back to her svelte self, now! Wish it were so easy for me! smileys/smile.gif

Keiley has blonde hair and huge blue eyes, but you can't tell it in the pic. You know how babies change.

Both my babies are sweet! smileys/smile.gif

PS And, Michael...yes, she had the sweetest puppy breath!

When I picked her up from the breeder's she fit into the palm of my hand and I kept her tucked into a pocket or purse until she outgrew that.
Tell me why it is that we think a puppy's breath is SWEET?!

ha!

Thanks for the advice Richard. We had a magnificent pet Doberman Pinscher who...

...was matched to us by the breeder when the dog was only 8 weeks old. This breeder was very experienced and made certain to get us a dog who wasn't the Alpha Male type.

It worked out beautifully! Zeke was a great pet, wonderful with my wife and boys and an all-around good canine citizen. He took my wife and I through obedience training (each, separately) and had such a great temperament. He would treat ANY visitor the same way my wife and I treated them. He literally took his cues from how we reacted to people, and adjusted his attitude to match ours. It was amazing to watch. He liked who we liked! He was never inappropriately aggressive or territorial.

I am talking to a couple of Giant Schnauzer breeders now, and I hope to have the same things in place with any new dog we adopt. We are somewhat "type A" in that we will train the pup well, and exercise daily.

Not for now though. Gotta have the house for a big pup like that.

Sorry to hear about Seigfried's booboo. Hope (for your sake and his) he heals quickly!

Michael
