i'm back. I'M BACK

Oh your poor baby!! My parents have a mix of Bijon and West Highland terrior

She is a wonderful dog! She is happy, go lucky and plays with the tennis ball all day! Best of all, she does not shed!! (I am allergic to alot of dogs, and all cats)

Anyway, unfortunately, she has had the same experience as your lil one. She broke her leg, needed to go to a specialized dr that would fix her leg/ligaments etc...All because of a tennis ball.

Just a heads up...She ended up having it happen twice over 4 years. You would think she would be cautious. But, after the surgery, she still decided to jump off the two deck steps (Really small ~ 1 1/2 steps) to "catch a deer/bird/flying leaf... Surgery and cast were once again required!!

Keep a close eye on your pooch!! It is so sad to see them in discomfort!!

Thanks for the picture! ((I miss ours dearly!!, passed in Dec, after 16 years))

Regards,
Barb

barb, thanks so much for the info.

we just got back from our first week checkup and I had the riot act read to me from the doctor about his lack of confinement and running. He's such an active dog and now that he has a cast, he just takes off and pounds his cast into the floor/ground/etc. to chase squirrels, check perimeter windows for intruders, etc.

The solution? constant crate confinement if I cannot have him with me on leash. This just breaks my heart. And Siegfried isn't going to like it either. The Dr. warned me if I didn't do this, Siegfried could lose his paw.

I've put all the tennis balls away and I won't be taking him outside to throw them such long distances when he has recovered. I'll confine it to rolling it on the floor in the house to stop all the jumping and leaping.

I am so bummed.

Sorry to hear of your little one's passing. It's such an awful experience. I've been through it with myself and friends several times and you just have to cry.
