I'm feeling nostalgic for my granny & dinner at her house. I wish (m)

I forgot to add that the beans were cut into 1-inch pieces.

Oh duh, I could have justs edited that in the original.

My mom used to make creamed baby lima beans, using a little of the cooking liquid from the beans

along with some cream and flour or cornstarch, can't remember which, I do remember them as being so good.

Could you just not tell your friends what you're serving. I can't imagine ever the fussiest

food snob turning down your homemade fried chicken, especially if it's already made.

My best friend is Irish. She actually only spoke gaelic when she started to school in Ohio. (m)

My favorite story from her is of coming home from the first day of school. Her mom asked how it was and she said that it was o.k. but that everyone spoke PROTESTANT. Her mom accused her of lying until her big brother stepped in and said MOM! it's AMERICA! I think she'd been in Texas about 15 years before we talked her into trying a chicken-fried steak sandwich (which she liked, by the way...) but she tends to sneer at anything fried most of the time, so her loss...I think black-eyed peas have even been pretty scarce this year because of the draught-probably one of the first years of my life that I haven't had them once and they are one of my all time favorite foods and dried or canned just don't do it.

i envy you, melissa. what i most remember of gramma's cooking is...

pork chops that cracked and broke before you could cut them.

what i DO remember is the time i had in the kitchen with mom. not so much the recipes and actual cooking, but the encouragement she gave me. kitchen time was i think when mom and i were closest together.

i miss her.

I think we had the same grandmother (More)

The one who couldn't cook - Mine could make wonderful tea cakes, divinity, fig preserves, and peach cobbler. But not much else....I have her Pyrex percolator for the same reasons. She taught me so many other wonderful things, though. My Maternal grandmother was the cook and she did make cakes! and pies! and cookies!

My mom is still alive, but some of my favorite memories are of cooking with mom and

sis together in the kitchen. My sister and I could make homemade bread from the time we could stand on chairs at the counter.
