ISO: ISO advice on "cookies in a jar"...

My MIL got a "cookies in a jar" as a Christmas gift from my niece. She wasn't going to bake them so she gave the jar to me. I used butter instead of the margarine and I knew the cookies would spread more (they did.) I also used only half the jar (after stirring very well and weighing out half the contents.) I also used one egg instead of half an egg. I thought this would make them more cake-like. The problem was they spread A LOT and were quite "greasey". I think the amount of margarine which was listed as 1 CUP may have been incorrect. Should it have been 1 CUBE instead? The jar was quart sized.
