I have lost my old recipe for this which was wonderful and heavy on the cinnamon (from the winery restaurant where I worked while in college). Of course I've googled and found bazillions of them, just wondered if someone had an old cherished T&T recipe? Going to make this later this afternoon for a Saturday birthday party.

TIA!

You know, I may have...

And every time someone explains to me how to search the old Gail's recipe database, for the life of me, next time I try, I cannot. Does it change?

Oh no, it's not you, Epi wrecked the swap at the end. But we shall persevere. I'm still looking,

it may take a while. smileys/wink.gif

Here's an Apple Crunch Cake you posted at the old swap

Richard/Cincy: Recipe: Apple Crunch Cake

I copied this out of the Reader's Exchange on the Columbus Dispatch today. I haven't made it yet, but the recipe looks totally decadent and I'm making it this weekend.

APPLE CRUNCH CAKE

1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable shortening, such as Crisco
3 cups firmly packed brown sugar
6 eggs
3 cups flour
3-4 cups sliced apples (Winesap, Jonathan or Granny Smith)
1/2 cup apple butter
1/2 cup apple cider
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups walnuts, optional
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Cream Cheese Icing, recipe follows
Caramel (side sauce), recipe follows

Cream the butter and shortening. Add the brown sugar and beat with a mixer at medium speed for 10 minutes. Add the eggs 1 at a time, then the remaining ingredients except the Cream Cheese Icing and Caramel. Bake in a 10-inch greased and floured tube pan at 325 for 90 minutes. When completely cooled, frost with Cream Cheese Icing and serve Caramel on the side.

Cream Cheese Icing
2 pkgs. (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup walnuts, chopped

Cream the cream cheese with the butter. Slowly add the confectioners' sugar and lemon juice. Fold in the nuts.

Caramel
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup ( 1/2 stick) butter
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine all ingredients and boil for 10 minutes.
