finally got a KA stand mixer, so I made the Maple Walnut Pound cake with Maple Glaze as a first time use. Thank you for posting this. The cake is scrumptious and wonder why I waited so long to get the mixer. I love, love, love it. All these years I have been using a hand mixer and didn't realize what I had been missing. Thanks again.

So glad you're enjoying both the cake and the mixer. If you love it doing a budnt cake,

just wait until you try Italian Buttercream or Torrone. I can't imagine doing without mine!

I campaigned for years before we decided to get one. Much earlier in our...

...marriage, before my interest in cooking went full bore, my wife was always concerned that an appliance would end up not getting used and sit on the counter taking up space.

She was waaaay wrong on this one, and she's glad she was. Baking, pasta fillings, frostings, egg whites, whipped cream, etc., etc., all get done in my KA. It's been going strong for a relatively short time based upon some of the stories I've heard on this board --only 14 years now.

I don't recommend owning a copy of Bernard Clayton's New Complete Book of Breads unless you also own a stand mixer with a dough hook! How did our Grandmothers do without it?????

Don't blame you for shouting Deb. I am going to try making bread, (m)

something I have avoided doing most of these years. With the dough hooks it should be a breeze, providing I can get the yeast thing right. LOL My DH will think he's died and gone to heaven if I make hoomemade bread.

I have been waiting for year for the Kitchen Aid to drop down in price.

It doesn't. High definition TVs are cheap, dvd players are cheap, coffee makers are cheap, but those friggin KAs will not drop. I curse them.

Better to light a single candle than to curse the KA. I see Finer Kitchens doesn't...

...carry KA mixers.

If you are serious about getting one, I'd keep a close eye on Amazon's Friday Sale. Sometimes they have the large ones (the ones with the hanging mixing bowl) for great prices. Cheaper than Costco.

Even at full price, I think they're well worth it to the active cook.

They do so break! (grrrr)

My five-year-old standard model blew its motor on a very soft hamburger bun dough. So then I risked bankruptcy on the heavy-duty model. Now I wish I had the standard again, because it's really hard to scrape down the sides of the bowl when you can't lift the beaters right out--it's a pain and, I think, a serious design flaw. Nor was the beater height properly adjusted, and in turning the little screw myself--not easy to get to--the cheap screw head stripped, so now it can't be turned at all. KitchenAid says it's not their problem. So now I have to rig up little rubber washers to keep the bowl a little higher. Seems a silly way to work after spending all that money.

(KA and I don't get along well overall. My handmixer also blew its motor doing something real simple, and the blender is so useless I can't believe I haven't thrown it away. Everyone else seems to love them, tho...)

Congrats, Harriet! 54 years, that is quite an accomplishment!

What color KA did you choose? I only got my KA a few years ago and love it! I had a perfectly fine Sunbeam stand mixer for years and years but it just wasn't large or powerful enough. Still have it, for backup, though.

This is one thing I think is a wonderful wedding gift that will never be returned!

Think I'll call you today, it's my turn! smileys/smile.gif

They want to, but KitchenAid is not accepting ANY new Internet-only retailers.(

New retailers have to have a physical store or KA won't have them.

I got mine when I threw out the useless Braun. And even at that, it's made a huge difference to my

willingness to bake and whip and stir and knead and....so on.

I too, wish I had not waited so long.

I don't know what prices you've seen, but last year Wal Mart put the Classic on sale...

about two weeks before Christmas for $162.00. I'd wanted one for 10 years and couldn't resist any longer, at that price. It's not the big super-duper model, but I love it!
