Since we're talking about the KAs...I'm wondering if anyone has had a problem with

burning out the motor. We talked about these a couple of years ago when, I think it was Marilyn, said she wanted to buy one with points or something.

People who had the heavier duty motor said they would not get the smaller ones. I got a 300 W because the whole thing was smaller. Maybe not the footprint but everything else. I thought that for 2 people I'd appreciate the small bowls and the ease of use of this one. I also use my bread machine a lot so I didn't plan on doing dough.

Then recently, I made dough (brioche) with the KA. THe machine laboured a bit. I purposely did not overload it, in my opinion and according to the manual (after all it did come with a dough hook) but I also did not shut it down when the motor started to warm up.

There is no end to this loooong story. I just wonder if the larger motors are really more useful or if anyone has had a problem with the smaller motors not being workhorses.

Oh dear yes. I read the grr as NT.

(Really sore eyes these days)

This is not good news about their customer service either is it??!! So I think I will go gingerly.

My mom gave me her first KA, she purchased it to make my 1st B-day cake! I love it but no dough

hook and it has a glass bowl, so I'm very careful when washing it in my old fashioned sink which loves to break everything (it's really the sink's fault! LOL). I would love to someday get the copper finish KA with a dough hook as I love to bake bread but it's too hard on the wrists these days...

so, it's not quite as old at Harriet's - but still quite venerable and still works fantastically!

I bought mine at a special price at our local building supply store. I think they wanted you to

build a brand new kitchen around your brand new KA mixer---kinda like Sandra Lee. hehe.

Hechts (now Macys) had a special: $169 for the Classic just before

Christmas 2004 & I was thrilled to take advantage of this deal. Maybe they were discontinuing the Classic. Haven't seen that model since.

What a treasure, Heather! Love this story! I'd never part with that one.......

because if it were me, and I did, I'd regret it the rest of my life. What memories lay in that mixer. smileys/wink.gif

What does DH base this on, Mimi? Sound, smell? The number of batches of cookies you've made??? smileys/smile.gif

I'd like to know what to watch for!

Kinda skeery!!

About thirty years ago I one on a job that was very old then, the type where the bowl...

turns and locks into the base. That part was worn and pretty sloppy. When in started up, made a sound sort of like when an old car was trying to start errrrr and then rrrrrrr and then it would start. Used that thing for another five years, many, many batches of cookies and loaves of bread and more.
Finally the bowl would not stay in place and it was making some other interesting noises, so retired it.
Have a 6qt. at home now, black. Got a good price from Chef's catalog long before I had internet, free shiping.
First one died the second time I used it--they paid posatge back and sent me another that's been fine so far.

See!! That's the diff with customer service in the US. They invented the concept there & adhere to

the practice of good service religiously. Here in Can. you had better not experience problems or you're out of luck.

I doubt that we'll ever learn now.

Oh, I don't know about that... not with KA specifically, but customer service is not

all that good here either. I dread it every time I have to talk to a customer service rep.!

LOL, no he bases it on the sound, and the fact that...

the speeds don't work. Whatever speed you set it on, it goes exactly at the same speed. He's a mechanical engineer, by the way. He's been meaning to open it up and look at it but my cooking utensils are not very high on his priority, he's busy building his garage. ;o)
