Ooh Michael, so what kind of spider WAS it?? We have big ones in Marin, and
last year when I was half asleep/twilight sleep, I was lying on my back and felt something large and hairy walk across my upper chest (I was wearing a spaghetti-strap nightie), I remember being calm/asleep, picking it up with my right hand and throwing it across the room. Thought it was a dream really, but then we saw it up in the corner of the room the next morning - I'm not kidding, the body was the size of a lima bean and it was very furry. ewwwwwwwww!!!! Marc called it Boris and sang that old Pink Floyd song, I made him get rid of it tout suite!
Now we have someone spray regularly and have a spider check every night before bed!!! Just last week Marc yelped while in the kitchen and called me to come look - it was another monster Boris type spider on the kitchen floor under the workcart. He also said one ran in the front door recently when he opened the door and was getting the mail (a different one) sheesh. Happy to say that my nice urban little apartment 8 stories up has never had a Boris of any kind. (knock on wood)
Do you ever get scorpions or other desert critters? I read in Sunset that it is common for you Arizona dwellers to deal with "different kind of house pests" than the rest of the US!!
