I'm getting too old and forgetful, but a celebration cake doesn't ring a bell.
Does it have a powdered sugar-butter kind of buttercream, or the kind with egg whites? Either way, I'd think it would be fine made on Thursday - you just might have to re-whip for a few seconds when you want to use it, to soften it back up so you can spread it.
