Ann, I'm going to tackle this, but I don't have one.  I looked at them in Macy's and I thought that
they seemed so "pebbly".  The cast iron under the finish was so uneven.  Do you have access to Lodge enameled Dutch ovens?  They are not a lot more and seem to be a far better quality.  Keep in mind this is just an off the cuff evaluation of the one I saw in a Macy's store and I may be way off base.  I've never used one.  Do the ones you're looking at have an even surface?
