I made this exactly as written, and it was so SWEET we couldn't eat it!
I thought the beer would cut the sweet onions and the sugar, but whoa!
I had to put it back on the stove and add black pepper and a ton of vinegar to bring it back down to a reasonable level of 'savory'.
Is this supposed to taste like this? Is it common to some part of the country to eat very sweet beef stew? Am I missing something here?
