as a follow up to my request for menu ideas to host an open house in two weeks for 10 people, the honored guests are all US Marine Corps (and Annapolis graduates) buddies (with wives). Does anyone have any ideas for decorating, menu planning, (besides MRE's), that would have a Marine Corps theme? So far, I've thought of Chesty Puller Punch, Leatherneck Lasagna, and Tripoli Tea Sandwiches on the menu. Decorating needs work. Do you have any ideas to make this party a real Semper Fi event? The guys will really be surprised. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Many thanks.

Red, white and blue-berry trifle? If you head to a party store....

you'll probably get lots of ideas. They usually have a good "red, white & blue" section.
How about a fruit salad served in a pineapple 'boat'.

Marianne, I saw these ideas on another website --

If you ask at your local recruiting office they will give you marine corps posters to decorate with. This lady posting said they also gave her USMC water bottles.
Use red tablecloths draped with camoflage netting. Go to the toy store and buy a bag of those green plastic army guys and scatter them around. The guys will love it.

Other USMC food related ideas:
Uncle Salmon Kebabs
All-Hands-on-Decadant Chocolate Cake

cheez, your suggestions are brilliant! DH and I are laughing our heads off...

about the camoflage netting. We're on our way to the Army Navy Store to find some. DH wants to drape the front of the house with it! I think the decorations will be a fabulous ice-breaker for our party. Thanks so much!

I found a ceramic bulldog for a centerpiece ,"Chesty", and DH made him a collar with DH's dog tags..

this is getting to be soooo much fun!!! Yes, there will be pictures. Love and thanks to you all! (Chesty is the name of the Marine Corps bulldog mascot, named after General Chesty Puller)

Semper Fi

Find some of those little can openers that they carried on their keychains or belts and cans of

smoked oysters or whatever for them to use them on.

Can you borrow a life preserver - you know, like one of those round ones

people have by their pools? You could put it on the bathroom door smileys/smile.gif Hey - you could meet them at the door wearing one of those orange life preservers!

Are you going to print up a 'menu' and post on the table.... so everyone can appreciate the "cute" names you've come up with for the food dishes (like
Naval Bean Soup).
