Just finished the Cassoulet , OMG so easy and so wonderful.,

I have used frozen meats for years in a slow cooker and I am quite alive to tell about it.

It just takes longer to cook and that is the point. If it is because someone says it is not "safe" to start with frozen meats- chicken in particular- I think it is the same belabored point as we hear all the time in the world of food. Do not use a raw egg for making Cesar Salad, etc. Be over-cautious. That is, in general, a good idea of course. My contention is that someone that understands food and how to cook, like Michael in Tampa, will have a very safe and delicious result by starting with frozen meat. If it was someone new to cooking I would not recommend starting out this way. My recommondation stands.

Good.

I am always willing to learn and am REALLY surprised to learn that it apparently is a technique recommended now because I know it wasn't formerly.
As a microbiologist I will bend the rules because I understand some parameters.

Cooking with Frozen Foods
You can cook frozen meats in your Crock-Pot® slow cooker, however it is best to use the following guidelines:

• Add at least 1 cup of warm liquid to the stoneware before placing meat in the stoneware.

• Do not preheat the slow cooker.

• Cook recipes containing frozen meats for an additional 4 to 6 hours on Low, or an additional
2 hours on High.
