Speaking of Penzey's, I just realized they have a store not too far from me. I was thinking of going on a recon mission as I've heard aboutt ehm for years but never bought from them. Any items that should be on my must try list??

I buy all my dried spices from them...no complaints. I have an herb garden

but some herbs are gone in the winter. The Penzey spices I use the most are Vietnamese Cinnamon, Red Pepper Flakes, Thyme,(I like dried thyme better than fresh) plus many Indian spices, which I love to experiment with. Just buy what you use most, and what you may not have in your herb garden during the winter, to start with. Where is the store near you? I live in No CA too.

Cinnamon, double vanilla extract, herbes de Provence, fines herbes, smoked paprika,

garlic powder, toasted onion powder, black peppercorns, Country French vinaigrette...

Hi Luisa -- Menlo Park; didn't realize there was one in N Calif

it's about 20 mins on the freeway from where I work.

Ceylon cinnamon especially, and I can't do without their Turkish bay leaves

The vanilla is wonderful, and has a piece of vanilla bean in the bottle. I buy almost all my dried herbs and spices from them. Sometimes we drive 2 hours to Jacksonville, just so we can shop there. OK, we're obsessed with food, we also drive 3 1/2 hours to Ft Lauderdale to buy Portuguese food (and wine, never forget the wine) at Seabras.

I've mail-ordered Penzeys for at least 10 years - see list of faves inside

love the Chicago Seasoning for steaks

can't live without the Adobo Seasoning for a great (smooth) southwest flair (I add it to a killer corn-cream cheese dip)

they have superior cocoas and cinnamons

fabulous blends: Chinese 5 Spice and Pumpkin Pie Spice

great nutmeg, coriander, allspice, ground ginger, candied ginger

Sometimes they send you a freebie sample in your order, and that leads to more new favorites!

Have fun -- you will LOVE what you find there. And I've done comparison shopping and found Penzeys less expensive than the grocery store.

Mexican vanilla!!! Ok, now I HAVE to make a trip there... I beg/bribe anyone going to Mexico

to bring me back a big bottle. Have depleted my supply!
