Just got invited (last-minute) to a 70's-style pot luck tomorrow. Any ideas?

I was thinking of pineapple upside-down cake with pineapple rings and candied cherries, because I have a mix and it's easy. I was also thinking little meatballs with grape jelly.

It's got to be relatively cheap, and be fairly easy to prepare since I only have part of tonight or tomorrow morning. Drinks? Appetizers? Something to wow them with? It will only have to serve about 15-20, for lunch (the YMCA mom's group - the Y here turns 30 this month). Thanks!

I remember my college roommate making a "dump cake", and it was a disaster. how can you mess this

up? I think of these in the 70s. pie filling/canned pinepapple/dry cake mix/ 2 sticks butter over the top. bake. cobbler like. I usually add some real fruit to the mix and oatmeal nuts and coconut to the topping.

Mexican Frito Salad - This was all the rage at the slumber parties I attended at the time

Mexican Frito Salad

1 can (15 oz) Ranch style beans, drained & rinsed
1 head lettuce, torn
1 bunch green onions
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 tomatoes, diced
1 to 2 avocado, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 bottle (8 oz) Catalina salad dressing
1 pkg (8z oz) Frito’s
Combine all salad ingredients. Add Frito’s and Catalina just before serving.
