Just wanted to say...

Well-known member
how much I like this forum. I've known you all, or many of you, since the 90's on Gail's Recipe Swap. We have hung in there over a variety of changes and everyone here is so nice!

I haven't been active lately because my enthusiasm for cooking has been severely dampened due to my new allergies and those stupid surgeries.

However, when I do pop in it so lovely. Just seeing the warmness we all have towards each other in good times and in bad, such as the storms and power outages, it is such a lovely thing.

I was prompted to express my feelings because I went to Epicurious as part of recipe research (mashed cauliflower) and decided to pop into Epi Forum and see what's been going on in there. If anything the nastiness has escalated, I didn't think that was possible!

I post a link for your vicarious shadenfreude.

(((hugs))))

Heather, before i read the link I would like to say that shadenfruede is one of my favorite words! )

It is lovely to see you, and I wish that you were feeling better!

Ahhh (((Heather)))

You know you can hang out here even if you aren't cooking much - right? Because if not, someone needs to give me the boot. You are missed and hope you drop in more often. Hope things turn around and you start feeling better soon!

As to that link? Good gawd.

The even more shocking part? That they got around to banning a user and TS put a sticky at the top of the forum saying "Please reply to this thread if you ever see personal attacks and we will immediately ban the user."

Ummm, really? Kinda a decade or two behind on that.
/sarcasm

I too love and are thankful we have such a nice home here.

Big hugs to you and even bigger hugs to Paul and Mimi for creating and hosting this great space for

all of us. I too pop in every so often to Epi and then regret it. It makes me appreciate our current home all the more.

Epi

Sadly, it has become the "all chubby all the time show" along with all his foot-stomping hissy-fits. Oh, and his disciples of course. They hounded me off the board over there & continued to taunt me long after i stopped posting. I hated junior high. I'm 51 and don't have to choose to relive it.

I'm with you, Melissa. I've never seen it worse, and I've been around...

...since... well, a long time. And people on THIS board were there when I arrived.

I got sick and tired of Kevin's constant dog and pony show over there, and finally lost my cool and made my feelings known. Gretchen was responsible for the other half of the show, and I'd had my fill. I went off when Kevin posted about his disgusting gastro-intestinal issues on his "fridge door", after asking for help on the main forum. I called it exactly as I saw it and went OFF!

As you know, Kevin has a gaggle of geese over there that just want to cuddle and coddle him. It is such that he can do no wrong, and they make sure you know that. He's loves the attention, and plays it up big.

On the thread Heather linked to, he actually included his full name and email address. Then someone told him he was not being very smart. Wow.

I, too, am profoundly thankful for all of you. Even Steve. ; >

Sigh...

Michael (my real name)

PS: The sad thing is that there is so much incredible potential for that site... it's almost scary. Never has been realized, and, sadly, I'm afraid it never will.

LOL, don't get me started on those theme questions! He's like that guy at a party

that's going really well--people talking, visiting, laughing, mingling--who wants everyone's attention to make a speech and or organize games.

I think Epi is understaffed and under-motivated. When things get stupid there, the hits increase

which is ultimately why (I think) the Epi swap exists at all.

Clearly, our management is also more motivated and better able to control the behavior of this membership because it's NOT as desperately in need of revenue. Think about the financial blows Conde Naste must be taking these days with the ongoing dissolution of paper media. They're a commercial venture where every penny counts which is why participation (ANY kind of participation) is allowed there. It's also likely the reason the individual being discussed here, has been "friended" by BOTH editors. The discussions and controversies he creates, markedly increases site activity and their revenues. Story of the world, my friends.
