Let's all call Cyn an idiot and get it over with, then please try to answer her question!

Trying to do 14 things at once (as usual) I neglected to put gloves on when picking and slicing hot peppers. I fried them up with banana peppers and onions for the freezer. This was about an hour ago. My hands are burning off and I think I seared my lungs inhaling the smell. On the positive side- they taste wonderful! Any way to stop the hands from burning or do I just have to let it wear off? After picking and cooking hots for 35 years, this is the first time I forgot gloves!

Gosh, Cyn....YIKES!

Um...I wonder if soaking them in milk would help. They say to drink milk to get the heat out of your mouth.

I'm so sorry you are suffering! Sorry I'm not more help. But try the milk...it could work.

Anything but water....rub them with milk, 1/2 & 1/2 something that will mix with the oils already

on your hands.

Amazing that your olfactory senses are actually competeing with the pain sensations.

Rubbing alcohol...

It stops the burn... at least it worked for me when I was making chili for 600+ people and the pepper burn even came through my gloves! Soak your hands in it and once the burning sensation largely subsides, soap & rinse well, and then seriously lather on a rich lotion (to counteract the drying effects of the rubbing alcohol).

For internal, the only solution that I know works is milk, but at that time I probably would've considered vodka just to stop the pain. I feel for ya, it sure hurts.

(((Good luck!)))

It's happened to me before also....

Aloe sunburn lotion works pretty good. And if it gets really bad like it did with my mother once, there is a spray on type industrial grade of the stuff we used to use as kids for poison ivy and such - Bac??? - anyway, it's made for people that work on gas lines and such and it REALLY works. Industrial construction type supply houses carry it but I don't know the name. My mom immediately broke out with huge blisters and her hands swoll up almost twice their normal size - all within about 10-15 minutes of handling jalapeno peppers so she avoids them like the plague.

Basically any of the stuff used for poison ivy works because it's the oil that it's cutting to help get you relief. Consumer reports had a study on this two part treatment for poison ivy and it should work good also.

Probably too late, but NEVER hold your head over the garbage disposal when

you are running jalapeno ribs & seeds down it . . .

Here's what happened. It sounds like I'm making this up but, believe me, it's all true.

Tried the first 3 methods listed above and it didn't help. My hands started peeling. Called my dermatologist, he quickly called in a script and a friend picked it up. Now I have cream all over my hands and 42 cups of bread and butter pickles waiting to be canned that won't wait. Grit my teeth and started processing. Set the ladle down and inadvertently set the pot of boiling cucs on top of it. (Can you see it coming?) Yup- reached for the ladle and burned the right hand. Now I'm working left handed. The Lid to the canner started to drop off the stove. Yup- grabbed it before it hit the floor and burned the left hand. Called the friend to come back and she finished the pickles.
The phone just rang. Picked up the receiver, tripped and RIPPED THE ENTIRE PHONE OFF THE WALL. I won't be posting anymore today, I'm going to hit the pineapple margahooties and go to bed.
Thanks for your thoughts, guys!

Good Lord Cyn, you're a sitcom waiting to be written today! I'm sending my sympathies and 2 shots of

vodka your way. Or tequila. You need a do-over for today!

If vodka works on jelly fish stings, maybe it's worth a try on pepper burn?

2 shots on the hands, one in the mouth---or the other way around?

I don't know i f it would work on your hands, but

you can tame the bite of peppers on your tongue with honey. Of course, it works best if the honey is mixed with the peppers before they are eaten, but it does help if used after eating peppers.

My condolences.

Bless your heart (and hands), Cyn. Heal quickly. Good thing the margahooties were already made!

And God bless straws!

OWieeee (((Cyn))) I hope your better real soon and stay out of the kitchen for a few days. CYH
