Let's all call Cyn an idiot and get it over with, then please try to answer her question!

Burns...a chef friend of mine told me when you burn yourself,

do not run it under cold water, put ice on it immediately and keep it iced for at least 10 minutes. Once the skin is burnt, it will keep burning for approx. 10 minutes, so it is important to keep the ice on it. I am not really sure about the accuracy of the times he told me, but it does work. I have had a couple bad burns, kept ice on them for 10 minutes, and they didn't even blister. I put some ice cubes in ziploc bags and apply right to the burn area.

it's a good idea to keep a bar of really strong soap around,...

like laundry soap or carbolic. you might have to hunt it down. it will cut the volitile oils and wash them away whereas regular soap and/or water will just spread them around. the problem with alcohol (unless administered internally) will cut the oil then evaporate, leaving it where it was.

the strong soap will also cut the antigens in poison ivy and such, and if used within about 30 minutes of contact will prevent the blisters.
