Or Fireflies as some of you may call them (or Leuchtkäfer)...

I was sitting in my backyard and memoaning the absence of Lightneing Bugs. And lo, there appeared Lightning Bugs. I am overjoyed.

What can I feed them to make them stay?

I love them too. I think they like it after a rain, when the soil/yard is wet and mucky. You can

plant sunflowers, which are know to attract them.

I was itting out watching them the other night and remembering my childhood

They bring back such fun memories and I can still remember the smell of them on my hands when I would catch them and hold them and then let them climb all over me before flying off.

I think if you were "itting", then it must have been mosquitos, not lightening bugs smileys/smile.gif

oh, I do miss them! nary a one to be found. it's too light out now anyway

to see their lovely glow. thanks for bringing this pleasant memory to mind. do your pups try to catch them?

Fireflies in Florence ...

We always stay in a pensione in the hills above Florence, and on our first trip we were swept away by the romanticism of the place and our proverbial room with a view. One night we were lying in bed in the dark listening to the night sounds and saw a firefly hovering near the ceiling. How romantic! We got all gushy and held hands and watched "our" firefly lighting up and fading out, trying to guess where it would show up next.

Then my partner got up to pee, and when he switched on the bathroom light, we realized we'd been looking at the smoke detector!
