Long wait at the polls? I was in and out in less than 15 minutes

Normally I complain about living in such a small town but I have to say election day is a breeze here.

8 am and I got right in. there was a line for the A-L folks, but nobody in M-Z. I guess I didn't

get the memo for early morning A-L voters only. heehee. we had PTA bakesale goodies too.

My polling place was moved. When I showed up at the new site, there were at least 250

people in line. So I got in line. I was there for about a minute, and a cop came by and started yelling that if people normally voted at (my normal polling site), that we should go another block west to another site. Did that, and there was only a handful of people in line!

I was a little overwhelmed, though, having voted absentee ballot (by necessity) thus far for all of my adult life, but it was exciting. Although I did give the woman next to me a dirty look when she leaned over (INTO MY BOOTH) and asked, "What's the date today? The sixth?" REALLY, LADY?

And then I was done and went and had a doughnut. smileys/wink.gif

Washington state eliminated poling stations. Voting is by mail or fax. You can even

go online and verify your ballot has been received. Genius.

10 minutes, tops. I've never had a long wait. Jacques thinks I'm crazy to go in person

when I can get a mail-in ballot but I love the ritual of it.

True. However, I did like seeing neighbors at the polls

and the patriotic feeling of going there to cast my vote, but the sheer laziness and time savings of the absentee ballot won me over. smileys/smile.gif

I agree that it was exciting. Having heard so many stories from my in-laws from when they were kid

I feel blessed to have the opportunity to vote.

On a funny note, when I was in college, my room mate and I voted in a high school gym with a REALLY long, straight line going out the door. My room mate decided that while she was behind the curtain, that she had to stand on one foot, lifting the other higher than the curtain. She did not take longer in voting, but certainly had lots of waiting people laugh and chuckle. She did a few bounces and various manuevers with her feet. Then voted, and left as if nothing happened.... Very silly sense of humor!

I'm not sure anyone voting in person in NYC got a sticker. I didn't notice anyone w/ one. smileys/frown.gif

Only had to wait for one person, in and out in under 10 minutes total.

We always take the kids with us, and go out for pizza afterward.

How sane, modern, and civilized. And I'm sure much more efficient, cheaper, and more open

to accountability! Maybe the rest of the nation will join Washington in the current century with their election processes sometime soon!

Here in Southwest Florida, specifically, Lee County the wait was 5-6 hours.

The election was called several hours before the last person voted. Florida is a weird freakin' state.
