Looks like ham for Christmas. What are your favorite side dishes?

The search on this site hates me! So, I wondered if this recipe could go

to T&T so did a search to see how many had made it and also loved it. I can't find a post where I posted it. I can only find the two, Traca and Richard. I know I posted it, why can't I find it?

I may do this for Christmas dinner. Question: do you put the tomatoes on...

...before you bake the gratin or just as a raw garnish afterwards?

Barb, I forgot about that one. The credit goes to Rachel.

Cheri, I'm not sure where you live, but Trader Joe's sells a package of mixed Yukon Gold, Red-skinned and Peruvian Purple potatoes which makes this dish shine.

Apple, Pear, Cranberry, Gorgonzola, and Walnut Salad with Maple Dressing

My twist on the one in T&T. I know I'm being a bit of a pest about this salad but I've been eating over and over since the start of FAll and can't stop. Made it for TG and people ate the green salad y'all!

APPLE, cranberry not cherry, AND WALNUT SALAD WITH MAPLE DRESSING

Yield: Makes 6 servings

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

Maple Dressing
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar -- or white balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
Salad
1 bag mixed baby greens (about 10 cups lightly -- (5 ounce)
packed)
1 Granny Smith apples -- peeled, cored, and sliced
1 Pear -- peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup dried cranberries (to taste)
1/2 cup walnuts -- toasted (to taste)
crumbled gorgonzola to taste (maybe 1/2 small container?)

For dressing:
Whisk mayonnaise, maple syrup, vinegar, and sugar in medium bowl to blend. Gradually whisk in oil until mixture thickens slightly. Season to taste with salt and pepper. (Dressing can be prepared 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewhisk before using.) (I omit the sugar. It isn't really needed.)

For salad:
Toss greens, apples, and cherries, in large bowl to combine. Toss with enough dressing to coat. (You may not need all of the dressing.) Sprinkle with walnuts.

Variation: Use about one cup of fresh pomegranate seeds in place of the cherries.

Maria's notes: I just put handfuls in of the walnuts, cheese, and cranberries till it look good.

The dressing is dark and pungent and "needs" the dried cranberries to cut through

I personally would not put pears with this dressing but try it and see- maybe you will come up with a sensational new favorite! Try the pear salad I posted just below this- it is also wonderful.

I add them before baking so that they roast as well. just garnishing is also nice. this is such a

good make ahead dish.
