A local chef posted on FB EARLY this morning that he was doing Vodka sauce on tv in B'ham
so I started craving penne with vodka at 6:30 am. We don't have many places that even serve it and none are as good as the place I loved and ate it at about once a week that has been closed for years so I came to FK first thing and found Marianne's recipe and made a batch - close to the one I want but still not quite there.
Then DD wanted pork chops since she didn't eat any last night so I made some pork chops too. It all went together well.
I have salmon marinating in a hibachi grill style sauce for supper and I bought some ground lamb on clearance at Harris Teeter and wondering how that would taste in Skyline style chili - SIL made that for us last week when we were up there moving MIL and now I want some more - she did okay with it but it wasn't as good as when I make it. DD says it's a shame to use lamb for anything other than gyros but I'm not in the mood to make flaming lamb gyro shishkabobs on the grill again.
I made Alton Brown's recipe which is good but really doesn't work on the spit like he recommends - so I left to go to the store and she was supposed to watch but didn't - I returned to look throught he sidelights on my front porch - through the entry, hall and den out onto the porch only to see 3' flames coming out of every seem in the gas grill - I managed to salvage enough to make three sandwiches. I've made is since as a sort of meatloaf and cook until firm then chill and slice thin and pan saute quickly. Still, I LOT of work.
