Marilyn in FL... did you get my email?

It sounds like she is doing quite well! I also will never understand refusing hearing aids

My late husband had them but wouldn't wear them. Same with my Dad. My uncle won't even get tested so we all get to repeat repeat repeat. It's like water torture. Drives me nuts and I soon lose patience. Our contracts manager at work is getting really bad and I worry about all he doesn't hear at meetings. Why don't people want to hear?? The newer aids can hardly be seen. I have promised myself to never put my loved ones through this.

So glad they got to her so fast

I'm sure it made the world of difference.

As for the hearing aids, with my mom we just did the well try it and see if you like it. If not, you don't have to wear them. Turns out she had no idea how bad it was till she got the hearing aids. So gave in and wore them after that.

My mom refused for years - said it would make her look 'old'

she still only uses it if my dad 'urges' her to (not so subtlety)

87 yo w/hearing aids - dad told they only amplify

Maybe this will not be helpful but Dad has had hearing aids for many years with definite benefit. Recently, his hearing tests have shown that the hearing aids can only improve amplification but further amplification will not improve his recent hearing losses. The specialists cannot recommend an alternative. I find that his current aids work exceptionally well but I can understand his frustration as he is now missing nuances where he has been able to hear well for years with the aids.

TIP: His aids have filters that get plugged with earwax pretty quickly. When the filters are changed regularly, he can hear me and others well. smileys/wink.gif Colleen

My mom recovered well

after 3 back-to-back "bad" strokes. She flourished as a member of a weekly stroke group for aphasia - it appears your mom has very mild version. Practicing talking/communicating with other stroke victims brought her back to vibrancy and sped up her recovery. Speech issues are very isolating. Colleen

Wow, so glad she got such quick care, that is good news that she has only minimal

impact. My former MIL had a similar stroke and responded really well to the therapy. Too much excitement going on there....
