Mediterranean Corona Bean Salad - this was so good!

Ha! I need to drive to Berkeley for vinegar. Alice Waters keeps

All the good stuff in her neighborhood!

RG I believe had a run on beans due to the pandemic

Yes, please, I'd like to know, too. We have local peach and raspberry that is better than what I

would buy in France. I am so thrilled with how our NA artisans are making outstanding products.

I want to try Banyuls vinegar. It’s all Alice waters fault...

I know how much she loves salads and wondered what her favorite dressing was. Well, that took me down an Internet rabbit hole to the Chez Panisse house dressing published in an article by her daughter Franny. The link extols the wonders of this vinegar and how most fine restaurant Kitchens use it, but most home cooks have never heard of it. So then of course I wanted some, and of course the closest place that has it is in Alice’s neck of the woods. Then I found out the store I need to go get it is in a tiny little shopping mall of nothing but gourmet food stores, so you know there’s gonna be a shopping trip in my future!

oooh, fun, Maria, that's a great little area to shop...I used to work 1-1/2 blocks from there

back when I was a pastry assistant to swapper E. in SF at a fine dining restaurant in that neighborhood. Be sure to check out Market Hall. That's where I met Janet in NC for a coffee when she was here visiting. Market Hall has a bakery, coffee nook, deli section, absolutely amazing cheese selection and sections with purveyors of wine, fish, meats, fruits and veggies. I recommend parking in the back behind Market Hall (directly across the street from Rockridge Bart). It's a small free parking lot (just go around a couple times if it's busy as parking spots free up pretty rapidly). Street parking can be challenging to find so it's worth hanging out at that parking lot until someone leaves.

I've had banyuls vinegar before and it's lovely. Must check out that brand next time I'm down that way. Have fun on your shopping spree, Maria, that's a fun area to explore.

Great article! Thanks for going down that internet rabbit hole...

I seem to be doing that a lot these days and it always yields good finds.

BTW, Market Hall has these great little seeded cheese buns/twists...

that are as good cold (noshed in the car if you can't wait to get home -- ask me how I know that! LOL) or gently heated if you can make it home before consuming. You'll have better luck getting one earlier in the day (like before noon) as they tend to sell out quickly. Sometimes the bakery has them but I generally find them near the cheese section. They're delish and worth seeking out. Sometimes they are in twist form, sometimes a bun. See link for a photo (but don't drool, lol).

Yes this will be a dangerous trip, LOL. Must plan with favorite garden center trip too

I love Annie’s annuals in Richmond and make that trip several times in a year too. I need to make a list...!

OMG, *love* Annie's Annuals. Manage to get there 5-6 times a year, more for their vegetable,

pruning, photography and other classes. I buy a lot of my herbs, flowers, succulents and vegetable plants there. Great nursery. Can't believe I haven't seen you there.

By the way, I called KL Keller to ask about the banyuls vinegar.

Turns out they are a wholesaler (hadn't read that part when I was waking up with coffee reading your article and getting excited all about a new vinegar to try). They sell to a number of shops in the area...and beyond. There's a list of who sells their products on their website, one of which is Market Hall. There are also a few stores closer to you. But I'm thinking one would want to call ahead to make sure items of interest are in stock.

RG Royal Coronas are my favorite bean!!!

But it has been hard getting them since March. I got some in one of my last bean club shipments and I am holding on to them for some reason. When I went out there the other night, they only had about half a dozen varieties. So now I am sort of hoarding all of my beans and rationing my cooking with them. LOL I hate they have become so popular that I can't get what I want easily. But their wait list works pretty good.
