Menu category in the T&T -- what do you think?

Or maybe, since all the recipes in the menu might not be T&T, it should be...

in it's own space, like the Kitchen Tips. Anyway I think it would be a nice resouce if and enough people like the idea, I'll do it.

Great idea! I am SO ready for this as I entertain often and putting menu's together just doesn't >

come easy to me, so I end up spending hours on the internet looking for recipes. Thanks so much, Mimi. I, for one, will REALLY appreciate it!

GOOD idea!...but if the menu's are posted after the fact then all the recipes....

would be tried and comments can be made about those that weren't quite true!...perhaps then some-one else would have a better recipe for the dish!
I like the idea of seeing other folk's ideas of what goes well with what....
and the wine comments too
and compare the American likes with the SA likes or Irish/English likes for eg. (I entertain folk from all round the world)

ie French toast with sugar????
strange, we love it with tomato sauce!!!!

sugar in cream for desserts????
why add extra sweetness?!!!

Crepes, French style, they NEVER use cinnamon and sugar and fresh lemon juice!!!
what could be more sublime than that combination.

all info helps (me) with ideas to put menus together when I entertain or when I work.

Lovely idea Mimi

Absolutely! I like making my menus even better than cooking them...

for me, deciding what to serve and trying to come up with good texture and flavor combinations is my favorite part! I love seeing other swappers menus too.

Great idea! Mimi, will this be a "no discussion" area like the T&T's, or a forum like the swap?

I'm inclined to think "no discussion," but if we wanted to link to more than one recipe, we would have to post them in the reply box.

Well, I really want to keep all the discussion on one place...on the other hand...

you have a point about linking to more than one recipe.

We can do that, link to our own posts, while saving the discussions for here>>>

Could you say something like, "No discussion please, just menus. Use the reply feture to link to multiple recipes...."

OOhh, great idea about the French Toast Joanie

I hate sweet breakfast on an empty stomach. I usually have melted cheese on my french toast (with sprinkles of paprika, garlic, chives, and black pepper) and sausage gravy on my pancakes and waffles (and fresh sliced tomatoes in the summer!). I'll have to try the tomato sauce next time.

Also agree about the sweetened whipped cream; I guess I got used to that in Austria, where they never sweeten the whipped cream and they can serve it with dessert, coffee, soup, or whatever.

Menus are for giving ideas for creating new menus, IMHO

If every menu has to have links to every recipe in the menu, I know I will not be posting menus. Way too time consuming to type out all the recipes and post them. Unnecessary too, I think.

To me, looking at a menu gives me ideas for new menus. I do not need to see the actual recipes unless something sounds particulariy different and I want to try it. In that case, I can ask the poster to post the recipe but usually I would just look at the different flavors, textures, colors through the menu. In other words, it is like opening a box of color crayons and deciding what I want to draw on my clean sheet of paper.

How does everyone else feel?

I think I'm on the opposite side of this in that I would love to see the recipe too. Often I come...

here moments before creating a dish and will print the recipe immediately to try. In that case there wouldn't be time to ask and wait for the poster to respond.

And like you, I gain inspiration from reading the menu, but even more inspiration from viewing the actual recipe(s).

Actually, I tend to agree with you Cathy. It would be ideal to have the recipes...

and they can be in the text of the message, they don't have to be linked to.

However, if someone has a good menu, but doesn't have the recipes or the inclination to post the recipes, I would rather see the menu than nothing. If we like the menu we can always find the recipes ourselves, and in many cases I'm sure we might already have a favorite recipe for many of the items in the menu.

If replies are turned on, we could even reply with our favorite recipes for the menu items.

Cathy, I totally agree...

Since I use recipes as "suggestions" it's not a big issue for me anyway. This is what I thought when I originally posted that I think it would be fun to share menus.

I too am more interested in the ideas, the contrasted and complimentary textures, flavors, themes, etc., to inspire me with ideas of my own, rather than recreating someone else's dinner (I do make exceptions on re-creating dinners of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Kaiser Franz-Joseph of Austria, both of which I have recipes and histories from their respective palace kitchens--I'm weird, I know! LOL).

And with most any recipe now a google away, it's not hard to assemble recipes if you should need them for a menu. And as you say, if something is unique and unusual, then I'll ask.

Box of crayons and blank paper...I like the visual!

I do like to see the recipes, but I agree they're not essential,

and it's nice to know they aren't required if I don't have time to search or type.

I agree too, Cathy. How about just posting a recipe there if it is unusual? Otherwise, ppl...

could search (here or elsewhere).
