Merry Christmas one and all. Cheers!

BTW, we've smashed a the temperature record for the date. It's currently 16 C (61 F) with sunshine.

The normal in Ottawa, Ontario CANADA for the date is -5 C (23 F).

Pink eye, SodaStream, loose siding, shorts and other Christmas "miracles"

Warm wishes to all friends! It is beautiful here in Michigan - record temps. Joggers in shorts! So windy, tho, last night a piece of siding came loose on the house and proceeded to bang until Dh and I yanked it down. Initially thought (hoped) it was Fed Ex knocking with the SodaStream gifts for our sons, but no. Discovered that the 2 SodaStream's were indeed delivered to Fed Ex but then returned back to WalMart for incomplete paperwork (CO2 cartridges in boxes are suspected). Upon receiving the gifts back, Walmart promptly canceled the order without notifying us. An hour or so of phone conversations later, I was assured that the gifts will not arrive in time for Christmas. Further change in plans, our Christmas Eve celebration at younger son's has been postponed due to future daughter-in-law's pink eye diagnosis this morning. But all is not bleak! Dh, older son, my dad Ed and I will still be celebrating - there is flourless chocolate cake to eat! And Dh has promised grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for dessert. Love to you all, Colleen

Colleen, it's called make the best of the situation, smile and love those with whom you are with.

Wrap up a picture of the missing items. Ask me how I know to do that!! It is 75+ here and

thunderstorms and MUGGY!!
It's still Christmas.
Going to church, then DD's for lobster rolls and starting on the foie gras I ordered for us from d'Artagnan.
Merry Christmas.

Colleen, are grilled ham and cheese sandwiches a Christmas Eve tradition in your family

or in your part of the world?

Years ago, when our new daughter-in-law, who is from South Dakota made grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for Christmas Eve I was shocked. Our family was used to fresh Dungeness Crab, a big green salad and crusty bread. She said that is what her and her siblings grew up doing and she loved it.

A holiday ham, yes!

Just started celebrating our family gathering on Christmas Eve within the past few years and haven't established a "food" tradition - yet. We would have had chicken BBQ pizza and salad at younger son's if things had gone as planned. When we reschedule next week, I'm hoping we all go out for dinner. But maybe I'll bring bean soup smileys/wink.gif Colleen

Happy Holidaze one and all! And yay, Safeway is open xmas morning!

Because even though I checked the cheesecake 10 mins before is was to be done last night....it was overcooked.

Sure, John had that option too but today is a different world. And

each state is very different. Especially here in the south. Don't read me wrong here but on this side of the country people don't usually have that choice or pay so I always feel bad for them. Publix always closes for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter but that isn't the case for all. For me I make a point of not shopping. I'll do without but I understand others don't feel the same. I liked living on the west coast better, it's obvious.

Merry Christmas! Christmas dinner recap...

Wow, what a dinner!

I decided to do the traditional Dickensian English Christmas feast and people were in a swoon and making me promise that this was THE Christmas dinner they want next year. And? It's so easy. I bought Delia Smith's English Christmas cookbook and made the entire dinner with her recipes. (She includes a 3-day timeline to complete the dinner so that the chef can enjoy the day.)

Roast Sirloin of Beef (dust the beast with flour, oven, bake-I also scored a 5 lb. sirloin of beef for $14!!!--it's all gone smileys/smile.gif
Yorkshire (Yarkshur) Pudding (pour the batter in the roasting pan, bake)
Pan Gravy with Red Wine
Roasted Baby Yukons (browned crust and mashed potatoes inside!)
Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, Shallots, Riesling, and Butter Sauce
Roasted Onions in Cream, Riesling, Rosemary, and Butter

and for dessert....

Kentucky Bourbon, Cherry, Pineapple, and Pecan Cake (Not Delia's recipe, it is the house Christmas Cake)

Huge heaping platter of German Christmas Cookies (Zimtsterne, Vanillekipfer'l, Nürnberg Elißenlebkuchen, Weihnachtsbäume, Spitzbuben, Ischlplätchen, etc.)

Dresden Stollen

Alton Brown's Whisky, Bourbon, and Cognac Egg Nog (with local-free range eggs and cream)
French Chocolate and Cream Hot Chocolate
Coffee
German East Frisian Black Tea
Cognac
Esther Price Dark Chocolate Covered Cherries

Stick a fork in us, we are done...

From the reaction of the family, there is now no need to change this menu. LOL. Except I will, I will be adding real steamed English Beef Suet Christmas Pudding next year.

Merry Christmas to all!!!

Great menu Richard--post that bourbon cake if you please--when you have recovered from all the food.
