Michael:I recall some discussion a while back about strawbrs from Mexico. I saw asparagus from

Bad timing indeed! I'm having Mexican asparagus for dinner, if I never post again... Actually,

I'd rather take my chances with Mexican produce than a lot of restaurant kitchens. ;-0

I repeat, "fresh local produce in season" may be an option for the sunbelt but we in New England

have nothing in or on the ground but acorns. And we have to fight the squirrels for those. So it's either frozen or withered, take your pick.

Chili still uses DDT and therefore I boycot their wines and produce.

Remember how DDT almost caused the extinction of our CA condors? and the damage to our farmworkers too - until the US banned it... I like my local organic produce so much. yummy and guilt free.

I once read that spending extra money for organic

bananas (as well as any other thick-skinned produce) is just a waste of money, which I know is not what you asked, but there is my two cents ;o)

As far as washing them goes, I just peel them. Why would you need to wash something you're not going to eat, unless you are cutting through it with the peel on, as in a cantelope? Not arguing, just curious.
