Missy's visit

Music City Missy arrived Wednesday afternoon and what a treat to have her here. we went to the bay front for lunch and then I went back home while she did the tourist thingy. after, she arrived back at my house and we just talked over wine for a few hours before she headed back to Portland.

I was just getting over a flu and had thrown my back out the night before, so I really didn't get a chance to be a real hostess. but, inspite of being tired and my back in pain, I so enjoyed Missy's company and was sorry to see her leave. I think that says a lot about how intersting and sweet she is. I hope I get to make it up to her next trip.

sorry it took so long to post but things I've been working on for months seemed to all come together thurs afternoon and it's been a whirlwind but a good one smileys/smile.gif

I came out here to post - we must be on the same wavelength....

I was a little 'ancy' of this meeting folks from the internet - I was meeting someone from Roadfood and Randi. But both meetings went wonderfully. I felt horrible because I knew Randi wasn't feeling 100% and I didn't want to put her out but we had a lovely time. And I should have listened to her about Mo's - Friday DH & I did another tour of the coast from Tillamook to Ecola Park and since folks on Roadfood loves Mo's and the guy in Tillamook highly recommended that we not follow my plan (Pacific Oyster and a couple of other places) but just get a snack at Pacific Oyster and then eat at Mo's. Pacific Oyster was INCREDIBLE and I am sick I didn't pig out there. (my reviews are on Roadfood if anyone is interested - in the forums for now and this week I'll do write ups to go under the actual restaurant section).

I have this bag of beautiful porcini that Randi sent me home with and I am sitting here trying to decide what I want to make with them first.

I also had a two wonderful meals with mr chips & his wife trudy and son sam from the Roadfood board. The second was at La Bamba in Portland (they have a branch in Sandy also) that had ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Mexican food I have ever put in my mouth so I am looking to duplicate it - tlatonile and pipian (mole verde) and some of the best black beans ever. OH and I drug DH out Friday night late to a food cart to have poutine so I want to figure that one out too.

guess we are, this is the first time I've had time smileys/smile.gif

I'm so glad you both got to see more of the coast. it was a shame we were fogged in here and you didn't get the full beauty of it. and, I think everyone gets to Mo's at least once '-))

even if I felt worse, it would have been terrible to have you here and not meet. I turly enjoyed our time together.

alas, I was so focused on stuffing the back of my jeans with frozen gel packs I forgot to put some stuff out. I had the olives stuffed with anchovies I wanted you to try, my butter roasted almonds with sea salt and a wonderful, KA, hot pepper jelly that would have gone with goat cheese.... sigh.... next time.

I saw on the news you got to experience one of our "storms". they didn't report on anything else thursday evening, just the rain, thunder and lightening and winds.

I'm glad you had a fun trip and found some good resturants to eat at. hope to see you out this way again when I can truly be a hostess.

hugs

I didn't think until too late but she could have made a day trip to seattle. aren't you about an

hour out of Portland? I'm sure she would have loved seeing Pike's Mkt and you if you had time.

Seattle's a couple hours out of Portland and it's day-tripable, but sounds like she hit all the

great Portland-area stops instead. Seattle and Vancouver are worthy of a stop--maybe next time? On a cruise to Alaska...stopping by Ketchikan to visit Nan and Ang in Anchorage?

Missy, just tell your husband the food folk have figured out your next vacation! smileys/smile.gif

Dang, Randi (hostest with the mostest) - I'm jealous of all your visits!

And darn sorry to hear about your back and the flu. May the pain of both be lone gone!

Would have love to meet MCM too!

Deb, it's location, location, location smileys/smile.gif

thanks, between gel packs and aspirin, my back was better by the morning. I just hoisted too many heavy boxes of books for the used book store and tweaked it good.

I rarely get sick and I gotta say, that flu sure took me down for a few days but I guess I also needed more rest than I'd been getting.

all is well now and I'm back on track getting ready for your visit smileys/smile.gif

His work may be bringing him to Portland on a fairly regular basis

I wish Seattle but if it gets me close and cheaply, I'll take it. I LOVE the NW. I refuse to take the FB quizzes and such but I swear that if I did take them my perect places to live would come out either the NW or New England. Never thought this Southern born and bred girl would say that but I swear I love those areas and the NW even better since the weather is more moderate.

Deb - where in MI? We're moving MIL up there to a retirement place next month

SIL lives in Brighton and it's near her. Not sure who all is going. They are going up later this month to start sorting the stuff out then back to move her mid-July.

There are elements I miss about the Midwest, but not much. And nothing to get me moving....

I've spent some time recently in New England too...Vermont, specifically. It's lovely there too and similar in a lot of ways to the communities out in the islands in the PNW (Vashon, San Juans, etc.) The PNW suits me because there's a good combination of urban lifestyle and yet it's easy to slip into some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen.

Who knows? Maybe DH will end up in PDX? smileys/smile.gif

He said he's too old so I'm trying to get DD interested in PSU's Engineering program

It's definitely the PERFECT area for her and their out of state tuition is CHEAP!!!

But DH is actually qualified for retirement in less than a year but wants to work another 5 years. Not long enough that a transfer would make sense to the Corps.

OMG. We are only 15-20 minutes north of Brighton! Yippee - I get to meet you!

Do you need a place to stay? Our house is your house! (although there is one weekend in July (I think the 2nd weekend but not sure) we have about 15 moving in with us- that weekend may be a bit much:).

Deb

I wasn't going to go but now I will...

We'll be staying with SIL. As soon as I know the dates and plans, I'll coordinate because we probably won't stay but one to two days - that's too much family for DH I think. He has to go up to Ohio in a week or so to figure out who is taking what and is expecting a fight to ensue with SIL's DH. I've never been to their house in the almost 20 years we've been married so I guess it's time especially since I have a reason to get out and 'escape' now.

!!!

Hey there,

I'm so glad you decided to come! You can use our house as a 'safe haven' whenever needed:)

And I can easily come to Brighton to meet you!

I'll p.m. you contact info!

Deb

alas Jane, Jacques took some pics but they are imprisoned on his cell phone until they

figure out how to get them off and onto a computer. I'll check with them to see if there's been any progress with picture retrieval.

I was in no shape for pics when Melissa was here so we didn't take any.... thank you Missy! smileys/smile.gif
