More Trader Joe Discussion...

We have one near us, but I've never been in it.

However, I'm moving in a couple of months across country, so I will probably not get to it.

Thanks for the suggestion

I just sent them a lengthy note describing the problem. I'll let you know what they say.

Here's the letter I sent:

I have been finding many products with expired shelf dates at the Cincinnati location.

I have had several items that were spoiled when I opened them when I got home, in particular cheeses. However, while sometimes the product expiration date had passed, sometimes this was not the case when I had spoiled product. This leads me to suspect faulty handling during shipping.

While I was shopping yesterday, I found cheese, breads, vitamins, and some other products with expired expiration dates. I brought this to the attention of store employees. The vitamins that I identified were removed (none others were checked while I was there). The person I told about the expired cheeses was stocking and said they would take care of it, but I did not see this occur.

Another problem I've had frequently are the plastic vacuum packages of frozen fish are not sealed. I found this out when they were thawing and leaking all over my refrigerator.

I now carefully inspect everything before I put it in my cart and find most of these problems. But, I am disturbed that I am finding these problems, and wondering what else is wrong that I'm not finding at this point.

I truly love TJs and have spent thousands of dollars at the Cincinnati store since it opened.

But I have also had to throw out many items I've purchased because they have been spoiled. I mentioned this to the store employees and they said I should have returned the items. This is not convenient for a cheese here and a moldy loaf of bread there because I make special trips to get to the Cincinnati store, and it simply isn't worth my time to go back to exhange an item costing a couple dollars.

As I said, I began notifying store employees about this problem yesterday. They were most gracious about it, as I tried to be as well. But I'd rather not have to police the store when I shop there.

I truly love shopping at TJs, but I am concerned about these issues. I hope that you can work with the Cincinnati store to resolve them.

Thanks for your assistance.

are you thanking for the suggestion of contacting TJ's or....

slugging Rick if he tries to schmooch? ROTF

couldn't resist that one!

I stopped at the local Safeway for some sandwich stuff and noticed a pkg of grey ham, yukkk

I told the clerk who was re-stocking the area about the pkg and she said, "oh, I better check the date on that". Well, duh. It's already grey and bulging, so regardless of the date, it needs to be pulled. Honestly.

Except that now they are in Monrovia CA

They moved from the South Pasadena Location a few years ago- I shop at the local (Monrovia) TJ's and have noticed that lately, my Brie doesn't last very long- I always try to get the "wrapped on " date which is the newest, but still....The Sharp Cheddar seems to go bad quickly too- Still, I wouldn't give up shopping there for the world!
LOVE the Pate de Campaigne- Can't get it anywhere else - but DO check the dates.....

More grocery store horror stories - I was at a store once (I used to go there a lot!) and

noticed some cheese packaged in much the same way your ham was... they had a great selection of cheeses for such a small store, and the prices were good, but I wasn't buying that cheese!

I asked the (owner?) if they had any that weren't like that and he replied "Well, no, but that's why the price is so good."

Ewww. Needless to say, I didn't get any.
