My nephew Dan was one of the Americans killed in Nepal

. He was at the base camp when the avalanche came down on them. Two others in his group were injured. My sister said she just can't think about going out for food so I want to get some food and make a couple of meals for them. Fairly bland as she gets GERD, so nothing the least bit spicy or containing peppers and tomatoes. Maybe a quiche, date breakfast cookies?

PS some of the public comments on Yahoo and such are so wrong about him. Why do people need to say ugly stuff about someone they don't know just to comment on the internet?

Anna, so sorry to learn about your nephew. This series of events has taken so many lives but

is brought closer to home when we learn it has taken one from our fold. My sincere sympathy to you and your family.

Breakfast all day long

I've always found breakfast to be my go-to when I'm feeling out-of-sorts. I keep a stack of frozen Swanson Great Starts breakfasts in the freezer. Trader Joe's has a wonderful frozen oatmeal. Muffins, sweet breads and scones can be frozen in small portions. I generally follow a low-carb diet but treat myself to great dry cereal (with milk) - for dessert. How about a batch of hard boiled eggs for a quick protein snack.
So very sorry for your family's loss. Colleen

So sorry Anna this is so tragic....about the internet comments

don't bother to read them. There are folks who have nothing to do but cruise the web and make uninformed, uneducated comments on dozens of sites. It is what they do all day. Remember your nephew for who he was to you.... helping the family will be good therapy.

Anna, I'm so sad to hear this and my thoughts are with your family.

Sadly the internet is full of trolls who have nothing better to do that to try to make people miserable, do try not to read them. Please know that most normal and caring people think it's a horrible tragedy, and what a brave man he was to try to climb Everest. This is most people's dream or fantasy but he was making it happen for himself. I saw a video of the avalanche and it was so huge, one of those situations that no matter how much careful training and preparation no one can foresee. So glad you can be there for your sister and family. As to food, comfort food, like a meatloaf or mac n'cheese or chicken and dumplings? Dessert too, like a pie, sometimes for some reason having pie and a shot of whisky helps - or hot tea. I hope his friends can get home okay.

So very sorry for your loss.

comfort foods. maybe favorites from childhood. breakfast breads like banana bread or blueberry bread are good to have on hand when folks stop by.

Yes, that is our Dan

Smart, funny, creative, needed little sleep, and loved people and travelling so he could meet more people. He was always looking for ways to improve lives. We will miss him. Meanwhile, I have beef stew in the oven, and am mixing up the date breakfast cookies. Steamed eggs for devilled eggs and will make turkey roll-ups. Good to keep busy.

Anna, I too am very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard it must be for your family..

But to know that he was doing what he enjoyed might bring a tiny bit of comfort. As for food, think of your sister's favorite comfort foods when growing up. I loved grilled cheese, creamed peas and tuna on toast, soups like potato soup and any kind of homemade cookies. My mom made a simple lemon chicken with roasted potatoes that was just the best and I have never been able to duplicate it. Think of the favorites from your home! Please know my thoughts are with you. Take care.
