My Saturday Six

My Sunday Six

1. Made Heather_in_SF's cherry clafoutis. Really nice! Baked it in a pottery pie dish with fluted edges that I don't get to use very often.

2. Made DH brownies for Father's Day. (Liam supervised.) We've already dipped into them.

3. My dad and cousin from Alaska will be visiting on Tuesday so I'm trying to decide what to cook. Green chile enchiladas? Pork Satay kabobs? I'm going to make a fruit, yogurt, and cream mix for dessert from Pioneer Woman--fabulous for summer.

4. We're going out tonight for Father's Day. Normally going out to eat with my MIL is fraught because she never likes anything, but apparently likes this place...and it's not Olive Garden...must be the seventh sign of the apocalypse.

5. Made marinated flank steak the other night...so good. Will have the remainder in a salad with blueberries and blue cheese for lunch today.

6. We bought four steaks on sale but now I don't know when we're going to cook them...

My Sunday/Fathers Day six

- While I am still frustrated about not buying the jam jars at the garage sale a couple of weeks ago...I am thrilled about my recent purchase!! Ihome Ipod clock/charger/etc; plus seperately a mini home theater system ....both for $20.00. Recent College grad selling everything....dh is very excited! Now trying to figure it out! Fun!! ((But still miss my jam jars!))

- FIL returned from Hungary on Friday....Aunt is not doing well; stage four lung C....Dad brought back their pots and pans that she wants me to have to think of her while I am cooking...I got very choked up...We have had them over many times, and she knows my love of cooking....I teared up when FIL gave them to me...

- Spring Cleaning / Summer Cleaning... Going through cabinet by cabinet; drawer by drawer.... I think I did 4 in 2 days....((Not an exciting project; and also at this rate....will be Sat 6 for a year!!))

- When will the rain stop?? Garden looks drenched!!

- Making Bonnie's chicken Dip; by request for Dad's day

- THinking of making rec Gay posted for Angel Cream Melba for July 4th....Ang suggested Blueberries/raspberries for Red-White-Blue theme)

Happy Fathers Day to All!!

Sunday six

I was able to get both really good Alaskan sockeye salmon and halibut this week and didn't mind at all having fish two days in a row! The salmon came from the fish kiosk at Sams on Friday and halibut at Costco on Saturday. I've bought Alaskan salmon previously that had that dreaded fishy taste that means not so fresh. This was so fresh and good. Wish I could get both more often.

A young bobcat sat a few feet from the lanai and watched dh grill the salmon. Such a beautiful animal.

Publix was almost out of tonic again. I must live amongst an awful lot of gin/vodka and tonic drinkers.

I've decided I'd better not watch the movie, Food, Inc. I guess I'd rather not know. I do see some of my buying habits are changing as I become better informed. I'm just not sure how informed I can afford to become.

I'm missing the veggie stands that have closed for now. I may have to get up really early next Sunday and visit the Siesta Key farmer's market.

Dinner today is Epi's baby back ribs with espresso barbecue sauce, potato salad and fresh corn. Happy Father's Day to all the dads.

My Sunday six

1. Going to Dad's day bbq: pulled pork et al

2. Coached daughter of friend through making a cherry pie and coleslaw.

3. Called around town for Fitflops -- none in my color.

4. Pick some lemons then run over to return audio books to library; get more.

5. Trip to TJ's to stock-up.

6. Bringing only cheese and wine for Dad's day bbq will get at TJ's. Kinda sad I didn't get to make anything but with all daughter of friend in #2 above is doing we didn't need anymore food. I guess the torch has been passed. smileys/smile.gif

Hey Earnie...any chance that you've been eating fresh mangos lately?

I have to be very careful not to touch the sap on mangos, which are part of the poison oak family.

Not the pulp inside, but the sap from where the stem connected to the tree. Unfortunately, the fruits roll all over each other so sap gets everywhere.

My first indicator is my eyes swell up. Then I get hives.

so sorry to hear about your dear aunt. how bittersweet to receive those pans.

thanks for the reminder about the angel cream. great summer dessert for the 4th!

my Monday one: whoa, rocking and rolling to an earthquake right this minute! tourists must be

lovin' it. I just look up at the ceiling in this decrepid old Air Force building and wonder if I should dive under my desk or head out the door. this one was a biggie.

How big was it, Ang? We had one a few weeks ago, it wasn't "big", but it was very close to us

and it really frightened me.

My poor daughter had never been in one (she's 2.5). A little bit after it stopped shaking, she looked at me and said "That's why we don't jump in the house!"

Curious, I agree with you about not knowing how informed one can afford to become,

and I love your gin and tonic comment. smileys/smile.gif

I always am amazed that FL's growing season ends so "early", I always think of it as being similar to ours here in CA. But then again, you all are getting tomatoes in March, right?

5.4. and this morning another at 4.5---gently shook the bed at 6:25

the dog lifted her head---"must be time to get up". No damage.

Sorry that your aunt is going through such a terrible thing. You will keep

her memory alive every time you use them though. The tears will fade, but the memories won't ((hugs))
