Bay scallops were $1.99/lb yesterday, couldn't help myself and managed to cram several pkgs into the so-stuffed-freezer.

On a hunt now for good bay scallop recipes.

Tomorrow will make a chocolate chile ice cream a friend is raving about from a recent cooking class.

Surlatable was out of the 9"x2" cake ring, must order one to try the quiche recently posted here that looks and sounds so very good.

Can't believe hubby and I so quickly polished off a jar of bread and butter pickles a friend just made. Delicious pickles. Am excited my friend is sending the recipe today so I can make them as well.

Made the Poulet Provencal Marg/CDN posted and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the leftovers.

My Saturday Six....

Would really like the ice cream recipe Pat! smileys/smile.gif !

Been busy with GD's birthday things... carrot cup-cakes. Flood icing hearts and sugar cookies. Chicken, grape, tarrogon salad. Hope the weather is good as we are doing a snorkeling trip to an outer-island for the day, tomorrow.

Had my students over for their regular water colour class this morning, DH is flat on his back in bed...poor man has flu. Cant remember when he was last sick.

Daughter also has sore throat etc and cancelled her scubadive trip today..birthday present she was going to do with my GD....OH dear. Can I help her prepare for tomorrow any more than I am?

Making a huge pot of lobster shell stock for Lobster bisque, the house smells a bit ucky, to say the least...but it will be worth it in the end.

Why does it never rain and then it pours...got 3 dates to go to tonight, Yacht Club Commodor's Ball has to be first.

My Saturday Six

Picked up more preserves (including the tomato preserves) at the farm store - that makes 6 in 24 hours. I have to stop now!

Bought vegetables and other things at the store (I don't usually keep turmeric around!) to make mustard pickle tomorrow. I am going to try and follow my granmother's loose instructions to my mother.

Maybe corn relish too - I'd like to try some non-sweet, pickly things now (maybe Pat's pickles?). And I have a bunch of corn that's not getting eaten.

Mowed the backyard, maybe for one of the last times this year? Supposed to get rain for 4 days straight now, so I thought it was best to do it today. Also cleared some of the garden and so now my hands smell like tomato plants - I love that smell!

I wish I was in the Bahamas with Joanietoo!

Also cleaned out the car this a.m. and found the bag of 5 peaches I bought a couple of weeks ago at the farmer's market - "Oh, that's where they went!" Threw them out.

Late as usual, here's my Weekend six:

1. Tried the plum quick bread from "In the Sweet Kitchen" by Regan Daley. Not crazy for it altho it may be my mistakes. I may have overmixed it and my plums were pretty tart.

2. Am working on Rosy Poached Pear and Pistachio Tart from Dori Greenspan's Baking. I was planning on taking it to friends tonight but I am a bit worried about the pastry cream. I am not so good with pastry cream and I think it came out too thick. It seemed to get thick before the "boil for 1 minute" instruction but I kept going because I wasn't sure. But the poached pears turned out beautifully red!

3. Thanks orchid for posting the Grilled Lemongrass Prawns with Garlic Noodles from PF Chang's. Made it for dinner last night with whole wheat pasta and it was fabulous! (There were no prawns at the store so I just used some large shrimp.)

4. I may still need something to bring for dessert tonight if I give up on the pear tart. If so it will be the Apple Crisp that Pat NoCA posted above. I have an assortment of apples and pears to mix together.

5. Friend give me a bowl full of long skinny green peppers that are turning red. Need to figure out what to do with them?? Any suggestions?

6. It has cooled off a great deal here, time to make gingerbread! I love a good gingerbread.

Olga D's Marsala and Scallop Soup

This soup is so very tasty and easy to make.

I double the amounts of carrots and celery and use a medium onion, all diced, because we like the veggie chunks. My notes suggest adding diced potatoes next time I make this - maybe I will and maybe I won't! I have bay scallops in the freezer waiting for cooler weather!

Marsala and Scallop Soup
8 servings

1/4 cup butter
1 small onion, minced
2 carrots, minced
2 celery stalks, minced
1 lb. small scallops
1/2 cup flour
3 cups chicken broth
3 cups light cream
1 cup Marsala wine

In a pot, heat the butter. Saute the onion, carrots and celery until tender. Add the scallops and saute 3 minutes. Sprinkle with flour and cook 2 minutes. Add the broth, cream and wine. Simmer for 15 minutes. Serve hot.

yup...this happens on the rare occassion....

went for drinks to the birthday but couldn't stay as we had the Ball on and after went to the next birthday...here they had a band and although we got there at midnight they were still playing....it all ended at 3am...what a night. Had to be up and at the meeting place by 9.30am the Sun morning to have a days boating as I ahd the salad, cookies and cupcakes...so did not dare to over sleep. But what fun we all had.
Lol, now we are paying for all the fun.

heehee. aren't freezers more efficient when full rather than empty? you are being so eco friendly.
