N. Y. Daily News - Culinary Bucket List - 101 Best Restaurants

When I looked at the list I was shocked to see how under represented SF was...

So I went to the source, which looks to be a blogger, and their list of "impressive panel of judges" which seemed mostly to be other bloggers left me feeling unimpressed.

(I loves me some good burgers, but when you put a burger place that reviews put on par with In-Out burgers as the 11th best restaurant in the country, yeah things seem a bit skewed. And I like In-Out.)

I love the SF Bay Area and was born here but...

on a large list nationwide I can see why SF would not be largely represented. In what cuisine would you say that SF is particularly notable over and above some other destination?

 
I'll be in SF and Petaluma in late March. Anyone care to recommend a couple restaurants?

 
more of a locals place than a destination but

if you have a hankering for a NY Style pizza then this is one of my regular spots. IMHO (but it is all subjective right?) there are not a lot of good pizza options in California. But this one comes close. (link)
Probably the hottest ticket in the North Bay is the Russian River Brew Pub in Santa Rosa about 20 minutes directly north of Petaluma. Famous for their beer it is not uncommon to wait 2+hours and when they do a limited release you'll see people lined up around the block. Anyone into microbrews knows RR. And then another 20 minutes north in Healdsburg is Bear Republic who has won a lot of awards. For local wineries my favorite is St. Francis on Highway 12 but of course there are all sorts of options. It's been a long time since I was there but Sebastiani in Sonoma used to have a great tour and has a lot of history.

I'm staying at a friend's condo in SF (walking distance to Ferry Market!) Thurs-Mon and commuting to the Artisan Cheese Festival in Petlauma Fri night-Sun afternoon). I've hit quite a few of the destinations previously so am grateful for advice from locals.

 
I think it's more the ranking...

I know who's on top in the SF restaurant scene is an ever moving object, but for example a SF staple like Boulevard, the latest James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Restaurant in the US, doesn't even make the list?

 
I'm rather shocked Mission Chinese is above Coi and Benu

is ranked near the end, below a taqueria? Saison isn't on the list. The food at Mission Chinese is rather yuppy chinese food per my chinese friends. Also Ad Hock in Yountville is not mentioned?

There are so many wonderful, beautiful restaurants here doing interesting and amazing food. Wish I had more money so I could eat out more often, some of these places I have only been to once or twice and long to go back.

I have only been to Tadich Grill and Slanted Door. I'll take this list with me in March and try check out a couple others.

 
Oh yeah, it's my family's favorite restaurant, when they lived here. The meat is good,

Nicely cut and their entrees come with with creamed spinach, Yorkshire pudding, baked or mashed potato and a beautiful salad that's tossed at the table and corn sticks. They consistently deliver a good dinner every single time. The 49ers eat there all the time, and they have a special dinner where the owner weighs how much beef the players eat and then donates twice that to Glide Memorial church for Mother's Day dinner. When my parents lived here they would stop in every Thursday night for a cocktail and then go to a local Chinese place for dinner and then go to their choir practice. I would join them and it was such a fun ritual, and sometimes if I was feeling flush I would skip the Chinese food and eat dinner there at the bar. The bartenders are like family too. When you order a cocktail served up they give you the entire shaker so you basically get two cocktails for the price of one. I need to go there, maybe next payday.

 
Nashville has one entry and Husk is opening in Nashville so....

we're moving up in the world. Maybe if I am lucky and try for it now, I might just get lucky and get a reservation at Catbird Seat for my birthday - doubt it but I can hope!
