Need ideas. Made a chocolate chocolate-chip loaf cake last night. It came out quite dry...

I'm not sure if my husband missed the timer and left it in too long - I left him to take it out, and he says he didn't hear the oven beeping. Or the recipe could be not so great.

At any rate, what would you do with it? Ideas I have had are either (1) warm slices and serve with vanilla ice cream or (2) freeze it and turn it into a trifle later. If I do the trifle, I can handle the cream & custard, but what would you use to moisten the cake?

TIA!

Cointreau or other Orange liqueur would be a good moistener-

Andrea, Sadly I will be visiting DC later this month- We are burying my Dad (who passed away a mnth ago) at Arlington, and my Mom died suddenly last week, so we are burying them BOTH together-

Can you give me any restaurant tips as there will be about 17 family members traveling from California and British Columbia and staying in the Crystal City area- Any suggestions would be welcome, as i am just not up to looking through guide books right now......Thanks

How about kahlua, or Bailey's Irish Cream?

You could water down either with a bit of coffee, if that worked with the other flavors you are using.

Oh, Tammy, I am so sorry, What a difficult time for you.

I actually moved from DC the fall before last, although I haven't updated my name. However, I grew up in McLean & lived in Alexandria for a number of years, so I am pretty familiar with the area - although I won't be as up to date on some of the hot spots as others. Will you want to stay on the VA side or go into DC? And will you be looking for somewhere for everyone to go together or just places you can suggest for people to go to individually? Do you only want places with a fairly quiet atmosphere? I can certainly post some ideas, although some people like Barbara, who is in NoVA may have others.

Hi Tammy. What a tough time for you, I am so sorry to hear of your losses.

There are many, many restaurants in Crystal City but I have not been to them. Very nearby at the Glebe/Shirlington exit off 395S is a cute street of restaurants in Shirlington. We have always had ggod meals at Carlyle (a bit price, very loud, MUST call ahead, wonderfl food), Shirlington Thai (my favorite Thai place), Alladin, Bistro Bistro (not nearly as good as it used to be and a bit too pricey now), Guapos (standard average Mexican), DH loves the place next to Guapos and I can't remember the name. There are more along the street but these are the ones we have tried. Two very convenient parking garages attached to the row.

Hope this helps a bit. PM me and let me know if you need anything else!

Andrea, take that lemon and make lemonade. Slice into biscotti size and bake even

longer to crisp up the surfaces. Serve with coffee for dunking.

Tammy, I'm so sorry to hear about this. You're in my thoughts.

Unfortunately, my DC restaurant source (dad) is on vacation and not really reachable (it's too bad because he worked for years in Crystal City). I'll check with some friends, though.

Tammy, I'm sorry to hear about your mom and dad. My prayers are with you during this time.
