Need recommendations for ice cream maker - I know this has been discussed before, but

The maker I have is on semi-permanent loan from a friend and it has a compressor built in...

if he eventually takes it back, the $300 machine is well worth it, in my opinion. I love being able to make ice cream without freezer bowl planning. And with the built in compressor, I can churn multiple batches the same day. (I brought four flavors to a party recently and it was so much fun to sample a variety.)

I use my ice cream maker much more than some of my other big ticket items (Quisinart, Kitchen Aid mixer, etc.).

Besides, I hate to think about it...but sure I've dropped $300 on dinner before. I'd rather have the ice cream maker. LOL!

Hi Traca - maybe you can tell me about your machine. I actually purchased..

my ICE-50 model when they first came out - the first several times I used it, I thought it was terrific. Then I noticed it took longer, and longer, and longer to freeze the ice cream base.
So, I switched up my recipes and took great pains to have the base extra cold to get it to freeze in under an hour.
After much frustration, I returned my unit and exchanged it for another one - thinking it was the compressor itself. This time, I was never able to get semi-frozen ice cream in under 90 minutes. So, here unit sits as I research it - read all about other's successes and I can't figure out why I can't get ice cream out of this unit???
Any suggestions?

I have it too, and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it, I think

you should check to see if yours is still under warranty. It sounds like there's something worong with it. smileys/frown.gif Good luck!!

Glad you got your book, and now with a new maker, you'll

be in ice cream heaven!! smileys/smile.gif
Sorry, I was traveling for work last week and am just catching up on the forum. smileys/smile.gif

I agree...it sounds like there's something wrong with the machine. The one I'm using...

I can churn a batch of chilled base in about 30 minutes. I get impatient and instead of chilling the base, I freeze it straight away, it takes about 45 minutes to an hour. But that's with the base not even being remotely cold.

So did you get your pieces back from your friend and are back in business?

I made the Vietnamese Coffe Ice cream and it was fantastic!! smileys/smile.gif

Yep! And in the name of "research" I'm going to make a couple varieties

of chocolate ice cream...and see if I can't nail down a favorite recipe. smileys/smile.gif I bought all the stuff last night and I'm making the bases tonight.

Yeah - but, after two lemons I think I'll skip Kitchen Aid and maybe upgrade to a Lello or Musso

after more research. Maybe I can grap one from ebay...
Thanks for your input. For now, my pre-freeze bowls work great.
