Need your ideas. I found the best wedding gift. A picnic set that is a canvas backpack that folds

out into a seat as well. The picnic set consists of 4 plastic wine glasses with green checked cloth napkins and a small cloth tablecloth and corkscrew and cheese/whatever knife and small cutting board and 4 plates and table service for 4, all in a zippered compartment that holds everything snuggly in its own spot. There is a big zippered compartment on the opposite side that can hold a bottle of wine and other picnic stuff and maybe some mosquito dope, LOL. I would like to add some fun things that won't spoil, like nice crackers and Walker's shortbread and maybe a tin of smoked oysters. I found some wineglass markers that are fun little bugs, and thought I might put a gold wrapped chocolate in each wine glass. What would you all include in this picnic basket? Oh, and the bride has a 5 year old son, so I thought to include some juice boxes too.

what a lovely gift idea. I'll bet it's something they will get a lot of use...

out of for a long time. how about some really good crakers and tinned pate? maybe nice olives, etc to accompany whatever they pack as their lunch or dinner? crayons and a coloring book or some other kind of toy for the little one.

It's definitely an "Alaskan" wedding gift. They are getting married at a ski resort this weekend.

good idea about the coloring book and crayons. They want to include the son in the ceremony so I don't want to leave him out of the gift. He should have fun finding things in all the zippered compartments.

rvb. I already copied this when you posted it to the pate thread. It sounds so good. I might just

copy the recipe and include it since I don't think they will be using the set over the weekend and wouldn't want anything to spoil. But this would definitely be on my list of things to bring to a picnic in the woods. I thought about including a small insulated bag with a freezer pack that can be used later for packing things like this pate and some cheese and sausage.

it's Very good (thank you morrison wood)...

around here we affectionately call it liver ice cream.

Hi Ang! I've given many picnic baskets over the years and they are always

so welcomed! It's just something many people don't think about buying themselves. I think a pop-up container of hand wipes would be a nice addition for that little one. And maybe some kind of a little hand game?

travel wipes---excellent! I'm thinking one of those catch games with the velcro mits. Easy to pack

They'll remember your thoughtfulness for years to come....

One more thing - if they are not the type to have and carry great camera equipment you might toss in a disposable camera for catching those memories.

Ang, this takes me back to a wedding I attended many years ago…

During the dinner, a conversation with another guest at the table revealed that the bride had always longed for a picnic basket. As it happened, I had seen a REALLY wonderful picnic basket while I was shopping for the wedding gift. One of those “light bulb” moments occurred and a spur-of-the-moment decision was made. After the dinner, I (not so) surreptitiously snuck our uninspired gift off the bridal gift table and rushed back to the store, where we purchased said picnic basket. In less than hour, we returned to the wedding with the new gift in hand, where it was (not so) surreptitiously snuck back onto the table - LOL.

The next day, we had the great pleasure of observing the bride’s glee as she tore off the wrapping paper to discover the picnic basket she had been longing for. She absolutely loved her gift and it was well used. (It must have been a big year for woks - I remember that she received 7 of them?!)

I’m sure your couple will be equally delighted with their gift. Wet Ones are a good idea - they come in flat little travel packs that are really compact and can be smooshed into a side pocket. How about some little jars of fancy condiments, such as mustards, pepper spreads, olives, etc.

AngAk, that's because most men.....

NOW, WAIT!!! I said 'most' men....NOT the foodie men on Mimi's. So forgive me for making a general statement! But I think that many think that having a picnic is driving by KFC for a bucket! smileys/wink.gif

Not that your DH is like that - but mine might be if he didn't know I wouldn't go for it. On second thought, once in a very great while, I might just go for that. But you get my point?

I guarantee you that the groom will love your gift when the bride packs it up and takes it on a romantic get-away! (Mine has crystal glasses, linen napkins, 2 lovely plates and a candle) But then, mine isn't a backpack! ha

A frisbee, mini binoculars, mini radio, good pepperoni, small can(s) of fruit such as

mandarin oranges

If you’re like me, you’ll have fun stuffing that sack to the tune of 50 lbs. or more!
