My organic gardening non-profit group opened a new community garden yesterday. Usually we do them without a lot of fanfare, but in this case we had the help of the Neighborhood Leadership Program, a city program that educates people in civic projects, giving groups of 10 students a project to oversee and a small budget to work with. The group assigned to our garden was great. They called themselves Waves4Change" and arranged donations of decorative fencing, arbors, benches, etc. They got high school kids to spread mulch for a week. They created a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday with the mayor's wife, city councilman, state assemblywoman and other dignitaries to speak. There was some media coverage. It was fantastic.

One of the donations they got wasn't ready yet--a commemorative plaque that will become a permanent part of the garden. In lieu of the plaque they presented me with a pleadge certificate that read as follows:

"The Waves4Change Team is Proud to Gift A Plague Dedicated to the Wrigley Village Community Garden."

Joe, you have some of the best & funniest stories I've ever heard! That was another very good 1. . .

Oh,, honey, no one with the power of permission will ever see it. Ir's our secret, along with

all the posters and lurkers on the forum, my gardening Board of Directors, friends, family, in-laws, passersy, qawkers, Randi, and anyone else who'll listen.

I would never want it to get back to the issuers, who worked so hard for their event....

I'm already in trouble.
