NFRC at all: Saw a curly-haired man who looked very familiar in a cafe in Soho yesterday.

The friend I was with didn't know who it was, but I knew it was a writer or economist I'd seen on "The Daily Show" or Colbert.

So I came home and, after a dozen Google searches of the "curly-haired economist/writer" variety (not helpful at all), I figured out that it was Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

This trumps every other celebrity sighting I've made here, except Christine Baranski (in Cafe Sabarsky). smileys/smile.gif

Anyway, I felt compelled to share. smileys/wink.gif

William H. Macy was on the same Air Tran flight

as I was. I splurged $25 (LOL) to sit in 1st class and he was there too. The closest I got was sharing an "excuse me" when for some reason or another, we passed in the aisle.

Six degrees of separation: I was standing next to Mikhail Baryshnikov's daughter Sasha with

Jessica Lange, Sam Shepherd and Harry Dean Stanton while we all waited for tables outside The Shed in Santa Fe (as everyone else tried politely not to stare at "them."

Shared an elevator with Jonathan Winters while he was in Pittsburgh filming a movie. He cracked jokes the whole time.

Introduced to Whoppi Goldberg and George W. Bush (the VP father) at Bern's restaurant in Tampa.

I saw him on book tour with Blink. I've listened to him reading his book on audio

for so many hours.... I'm eager to learn more about his research process, how he keeps all that information organized, and his work is so incredibly dense, I'm intrigued by what gets cut. Would love to see a process-oriented interview with him. Like an Inside the Actor's Studio for authors. smileys/smile.gif

Very fun! When I went to school, I loved economics, and the economic "geeks" used to have a

secret code. (Like a secret hand shake).. We would cross our arms in an "X" for "All markets intersect..." (In econ classes there are lots of graphs which ultimately lead to "all markets clear"

It was quite humorous at a bar/study hall/party... You could always give the secret "X" to anyone studying econ. They would laugh.

I ran into a college classmate a few years ago at an airport in San Antonio. I did not recall his name. Just did the secret "X"... and we both started laughing. Economists can be quite amusing, how cool is it to run into Malcolm Gladwell! Would have been interesting to pick his brain on current state of affairs.... Wether disagree or agree... just hearing his thoughts.

Maria, that pesky percentage sign prevents me from answering, even though you were only swearing.

I wanted to say, "But how fabulous did she look."

Yes, I am that shallow. smileys/wink.gif

I love Charlie Rose...especially since they removed the pay per episode feature on website.

Now the entire Charlie Rose body of work is available online. Under the category of food: Ruth Reichl, David Chang, etc.

When I worked at the Pearl S. Buck Foundation I had lunch with Dom Deluise and his wife Carol Arthur

Audrey Meadows and Jean Stapleton. They were all so lovely with the staff. Dom and Carol are your nice next door neighbors. I was carrying a couple of trays of food into the cultural center and I hear this deep smokey voice "Let me get that door for you, honey." Audrey Meadows ran up the steps in her heels to open the door.

Sally Jesse Raphael was also involved.
