NFRC: It's that time of year again. Looking for "beach book" suggestions. What have you

Purchased several books ath the thrift store yesterday. I used to go to the library and loved the

selection of 14 day books but my husband made me swear off them because I just couldn't seem to get them returned on time. 10 books at 10 cents a day adds up! I picked up My A'ntonia by Willa Cather, Charlotte Gray by Sebastian Faulks A Whole in the Heart by Christopher Marquis The Sweetheart Season by Karen Joy Fowler I usually try to get some interesting non fiction like a travel or autobi but didn't see anything. Misplaced and I have the same taste in books.

Here's a list of books I've read and enjoyed over the past year or so:

Enchanted April--Elizabeth Von Arnim
Peace Like a River--Leif Enger
An Unfinished Season: A Novel--Ward Just
The Eyre Affair--Jasper Fforde
No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency--Alexander McCall Smith
Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor: Being the First Jane Austen Mystery--Stephanie Barron

Currently reading and recommend:
The Historian--Elizabeth Kostova
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell--Susanna Clarke

Also good for easy summer reading:

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

Have fun!

I'm re-reading Lawrence Sanders Timothy Files. Fun NY PI mystery, not as well known

as his other books. I chose this for my bookclub meeting in October, and plan to make a NY deli type meal to go with it. I'm thinking antipasto platter and breadsticks for appetizer. Corned beef sandwiches on marble rye with kosher pickle wedge and overnight slaw. Also some smoked turkey on white. a selection of mustards and horseradish mayo and cranberry chutney for perking up the sandwiches. Maybe some Maui onion chips in bags just for fun. Then NY cheesecake with some rhubarb compote and some black and white cookies. Nothing fancy wine and some sparkling deli style lemonade(at costco, organic lemonade, nice) for beverages. I think it will be fun. I love the way he describes the meals he scrounges up. Fun read.

"The Poisonwood Bible" is one of the best books I've ever read, but you'll need a long vacation!

Oh, yes, when it came out years ago. Such a fabulous movie!

I'd read the book years ago as well, but reread it a month or so ago. Still good!
