Off Topic - Finally Finished Quilt

Congratulations! Quilting is such a beautiful art. When we had our French fabric shop

some of my favorite customers were the quilters who came in for scraps and remnants to turn into beautiful pieces like this. Many of them would lament all their unfinished projects, but you finished yours!

Thank you all. I'm keeping it. It is a wall hanging.

Joe, I could have gotten in big trouble in your store. The reason I think that they have unfinished projects is a lot of people like doing the piecing & making the tops a lot more than actually putting them together & quilting them. Most home sewing machines are sub-optimal for quilting. Long arm machines are VERY expensive.

My best quilter used to send the pieces out for the final quilting. It was expensive,

and the quilting was random--no swag or other specialty stitching. But she got the quilts quilted and even sold some in our shop.

I used to buy some supplies for our store from a quilting shop that was run by Mennonites. This was right in a semi-industrail section of Orange County. They sat in a circle in the back stitching by hand! Their own quilts were for sale and they were wonderful.

There are women who will quilt them for you here, but it is already an expensive hobby.

My beginning class one is crib sized and we are hand quilting them. At the rate I'm going it will be a long time before it is finished...
