Ohhhhhh Randdddddi- My new KA (that you "forced" me to buy) came in. It's beeeeutiful!

No problem...where are you located? I'll let him know I've arranged some work for him. smileys/wink.gif

Actually, one of his clients moved to Montana and asked if he'd be willing to do some work for them out there. They were going to fly him out and put him up in a rented apartment and everything. He decided not to do it--I thought he was nuts.

Actually, if you waited until spring or summer, you would probably do okay with a microwave, a crock pot, and a grill. Didn't one of our Swapmates do this recently?

Wouldn't work for me - I don't use a microwave or a crockpot. I eat mostly vegetarian and mainly

use the stovetop, so I probably could survive using a hotplate and toaster oven, but... what do you do when you don't have access to the kitchen sink or dishwasher? My bathrooms are both a long trek down the other side of the house (stupid layout), so using the sinks to wash dishes or wash produce would be a disaster.
And the worst part of it all is I wouldn't be able to bake. What a travesty!smileys/smile.gif

I have two KA's.....

Here's what happened. I bought my 6 gt 475 watt one a few years ago then last summer found a wonderful 1960's one at a garage sale. Mint condition! (FIVE DOLLARS!! hehehe!) It's just a 4 qt bowl but oh, this baby is nice! It's the old Bosch motor and it runs like a dream! Glass bowl. No dough hook, though. It makes meringue like I've never been able to do before - in a flash! smileys/smile.gif

Thought I'd sell it on eBay - but oh, no....it sits in my pantry and I use it a lot when I am doing smaller, everyday things. It's easy to pick up and move unlike my monster mixer that won't sit under the cabinet. smileys/wink.gif

So, you might want to consider to keep it if you think you'll use it, and if it's smaller. I loan mine out once in awhile, too.

Meryl, we just completed a kitchen re-do. Yes, we did eat out a bit more than normal

but that could be avoided by better timing. Have the major part of the construction timed to do in the spring or fall.

I did not have too much success with my Target special hot plate, it didn't get hot enough for a lot of things. However, order a butane burner (or get one from your local China town store) and that works like a charm. I did a lot of cooking on this outside until it got too hot in mid summer. I do have a second fridge downstairs and a laundry sink-also downstairs-where I did my dishwashing, using the washer as a drain board. I guess it sorta depends on how badly you want a new kitchen! LOL!

Are you kiddig me? The "kids" make triple what we make and buy the top notch

appliances as soon as they become available smileys/smile.gif

FIVE DOLLARS???!?!?!?! You have got to be kidding me - I'm living in the wrong town!

I also have two - the first is a white 4 1/2 Ultra Power, 250 watts, 12 years old.

The second is a 6 qt cobalt blue Epicurean. Bought it at some clearance sale for about $125 (thought I had a good deal!) I thought I'd need the bigger model, with the higher wattage.

But I decided I liked the tilt head Ultra much better than the bowl-lift Epicurean, and the lower wattage was sufficient for 95% of my recipes. Plus it was a gift from hubby, so it had sentimental value.

So I still use the Ultra, but kept the Epicurean, for when I need to make big batches of cookies. I suppose I should get rid of the Epicurean, since I don't really need it, but I keep thinking that someday I might.....

Nope. Got a steal, for sure....

But my daughter got the best deal at that garage sale! She bought a vintage table lamp that we found on the net for $400+ for $20! Forgot the name of it but if she hadn't gotten there first I'd have that baby in my house, tooo! smileys/smile.gif

This woman was selling off a bunch of her mother's things and just wanted to get rid of them. I offered her $10 for the mixer but she just wanted 5!

My large mixer is the Epicurean, too. I think they changed the name of it to something else, but I absolutely love mine. I like lifting the bowl up and down. Taking the beater out might not be quite as easy as the lift back head but I never have any issues with it.

I bought mine online and think I paid $215. for it - which isn't as good a deal as yours, but was still a wonderful price.

I love kitchen stuff!!!!!!!!!! smileys/smile.gif
