Penzey's has opened their Los Angeles area store - YIPEE!

What general area in Torrance did you grow up? I am

in the Riviera area - we moved here from South Redondo about 3 years ago. I also lived in Long Beach/Lakewood for 5 years.

Sandi! You can also check out Whole Foods while you are here, they

are in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's, at the NE corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Crenshaw. Krispey Kreme is about a block west of there, also on PCH.

And Penzeys is right across from the Del Amo mall, so you can swoop over to Bath and Body works likety-split!

I am in South Torrance, so let me know if there is anything else you are interested in seeing. Maybe we can meet up for a Krispy Kreme and coffee....

I grew up in North Torrance, near Crenshaw and Artesia, but later we moved to South Torrance,

Hawthorne right before Palos Verdes. My Dad lives by Del Amo now, and I have a sister AND a brother in the Riviera area. Such a nice spot (the Riviera, that is. You can have North Torrance!)

Me, I'm in the Wrigley area near Willow and the 710. All 1920's homes--very nice, though our beach is the worst.

Moyn, I was talking to a Trader Joe's employee "off the record" and he told me

the company is bombarded by requests to open stores, but they're committed to slow growth, and since they don't do much advertising, they only open new stores where the demand has reached a fever pitch and they know they'll be mobbed on opening day. So maybe if you and your neighbors started a crusade?

I've mentioned this before regarding TJ's slow growth philosophy...

It is also driven by their (wise) policy of owning and contolling their own supply chain of warehouses and distribution sites.

They move methodically along a path of supply chain that they can control. That way they have much more control over the cost of getting their products into the stores at a price point that stays relatively low.

They are very smart.

Michael

Moyn, I'd love to send you and Teddy some malasadas, but as you know, they're best eaten hot!

Gotta eat them standing up, in the parking lot, with sugar all over your face!

Guess you gotta come back here, and make that trip to Leonard's bakery smileys/smile.gif Would love to see you guys!

Yes, I think I've posted before that , at my urging,>>>>

Teddy had phoned management & they said, essentially, what you said, Michael. They first choose their distribution spots & then the locations. Since we are so far south & east, I assume we'll be last, in the country, other than Hawaii, to be graced with their presence.

Yep, just watch your receipts, I've been charged for things a couple of times that I did not buy.

I don't think it is done maliciously, just being inattentive on the part of the cashier. I always check the receipts before I leave the store.

That happened to me once. They're pretty disorganized there. It's like musical cash registers

the way they bounce around. In this case the previous purchase hadn't been totaled out.
