I am having a HUGH problem with the little fruit flies, at least I think that's what they are. They're the ones that appear if there is a piece of old fruit left out, they're just larger than a gnat. They are everywhere in the kitchen and starting to spread to other areas of the house. I must have killed 50 of them last night and this morning they were still all over. I have sealed every piece of food that is not in the fridge. Where are they coming from? How do I get rid of them?

There is construction going on just outside my kitchen but they have not broken thru to the inside yet. Do you think they disturbed a nest of these little buggers and they are finding their way inside now?

Please help! I am desparate to get rid of them. I have washed all the cabinets and counter tops but that doesn't stop them.

Thank you!

Hi Barbara, my daughter just went through this and I researched it. She put some vinegar

in a jar and punched holes in the lid, the flies could get in, but couldn't get back out. They are drawn to the vinegar. It solved the problem for her.

I'm a bit confused as to whether fruit flies are the same ones that can live in the drain. If you notice them in your sink, put baking soda and vinegar in the drain and let it sit, then flush it with water.

Barb, we have the same problem!!! I tried everything last summer, the vinegar, dish soap,

everything I read on-line about getting rid of gnats I tried!!! The only thing that worked for me was aunt/fly spray (Raid) that someone said worked for them. It worked for me, I sprayed at night before we went to bed and in the morning after breakfast. The person who recommended the spray said to use the fly spray in the blue can (they couldn't remember the name). I couldn't find anything in a blue can so tried Raid and it worked. Hope you can find something that works.... it was driving us crazy!!!

I had to set off one of those bug bombs at my Mom's house. worked great, but may not be great

for the kitchen. I just scrubbed everything down afterwards, and layed newpaper over the counters before beginning.

I've had gnats that seem to come from the soil in houseplants, They can fly around and become

annoying. They loved my computer screen. The Safer insecticidal soap insect control products worked for me. I just sprayed it lightly on the soil after watering the plant, the gnats disappeared and there was no harm to the plants.

a friend of mine got a geckko for insect control. very effective but not the friendliest

of lizards "-))

I'm just shaking my head! We spend soooo much time trying to get rid of geckos! It's a

losing battle in Florida I'm afraid.

WOW! I had no idea this was such a common problem! I have found that the

vacuum works great at catching them but I can't stand in the kitchen the rest of my life vaccumming little bugs. So, I will try the vinegar tonight before I go to bed and check progress in the morning. I may have also found the culprit, an escaped onion in the bottom of a basket! It is gone now so maybe that will help too.

Thank you all for your help!

Aah yes, lovebugs! Although we don't have as many on the East Coast as you do on the West Coast.
