Please keep good thoughts for the people in San Diego.

It's a nightmare there. All of my friends and family are evacuated, and some of their homes have burnt down. I thought the fires a couple years ago were bad, but these are so much worse.

Please keep good thoughts for them. The good news is that they are evacuating much earlier now, so hopefully fewer lives will be lost.

Oh no Dawn, how devastating! I will definitely keep them in my thoughts...

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

We are normally a couple of hours, either direction, from most of the fires.

The one near Arrowhead is closer, about 30 miles or so. Those escaping are telling of 5 or more hours to make it here for lodging due to interstate, highway and road closures. Hotels in Palm Springs filled up quickly, and, true to the American spirit of giving, are offering steep discounts.

"They" tell us the red flag conditions should lift tomorrow sometime, which will help the fire fighters gain solid ground against it.

Our friends tell us that they haven't had to leave but they are packed and ready, just in case. Those that want to help should contact the Red Cross. They are amazing and always ready to help when the fires come. A prayer for moving the stubborn who want to "ride it out" and put our fire fighters in additional danger would be good, too.

Our friends were near the Cedar Fire a few years ago

and her hubby was in the hospital with a heart attack, her father was in the same hospital dying and her daughter was in labor. When the evacuation order came down, she sent her adult son home to evacuate the cats and grab the important papers, giving him a list. If he had time he was to grab photo albums. What she found after was that he'd grabbed the computer, DVD player, TV and stereo. Oh, and the cats. Not one paper or photograph. Thankfully, their home was spared.

This time, she has everything packed and ready, just in case.

My thoughts are with you too, Dawn. I'm up here in Escondido

and the evacuations are less than 1/4 mile from my house. I was up all night worrying and the wind was blowing so hard I thought it would break a window. It's very scarry. It's like there is nowhere to go that is safe. If any of you have any rain please send it our way.

Where is you family located? We are up in Escondido and

packed and ready to go as well. We are threatend by the Valley Center fire and are having a hard time getting info.

Thanks 4 map - I have freinds in mand evac areas...

so I'm trying to keep track. They are in Poway which looks hard hit on these maps: looks to be burning from Ramona, through Poway, jumped the fwy and onward towards the ocean. smileys/frown.gif

Prayers for everyone... I watched the Oakland firestorm a few years back and it was awful.

My heart goes out to all those effected by these fires. Hopefully they'll get

a break soon from the weather! Be safe everyone.

Glad to hear they are all safe. This is very bad.

The fire today kicked up around Lake Hodges so the air quality is very bad. It's still a little windy up here. I heard that S.M. is ok and all the evacuees can return.

Michael, I used to live in Casa de Oro 50 years ago. It was a tiny

place, a bar, small store, avocado orchards, school, is about all I can remember. Has it grown a lot?

It's completely surrounded by suburbs now. Was the bar the Oxbow Inn? It was there for...

...a long, long time.

There is a Catholic school attached to Santa Sophia Catholic Church. The main drag, Campo Road, has a Starbucks now.

Time marches on... and sometimes it stumbles.

The area he lives in is safe, just hot and smoky -probably the same for

cheezz and Steve2. We have an awful haze, smokey smell and burning eyes and throats here - so thankful that is all.
