I have seen the fires on the news and it looks terrible. My heart goes out to

everyone living in those areas.

 
Wait, I just read in the paper that Long Beach has the worst air pollution when there are fires.

Apparently, we're at the base of what I just learned is known as the "Santa Ana Funnel," and we get everyone's smoke in these conditions.

Who knew? (cough)

 
friend's of one of my dear friends was almost evacutated yesterday and they said their cat

is vomitting from the smoke. they are totally freaked, to put it mildly. (I know Kurt but haven't seen him a few years now.) it's just horrible.

 
thanks for thinking of me lisa! I'm fine -- 1 mile from the beach, so we miss all that.

The sky is kind of pink and it makes for beautiful sunsets, but no smell of smoke.

 
It's still bad in SD County. My sis finally rebuilt in Pine Hills after

losing their place four years ago in the Cedar Fires. This time her husband would only go for a pre-fab house, which they finished two months ago. As the fires move toward Julian, this may go too. Say a quick prayer, please.
Meanwhile my brother is still waiting to see if he needs to leave his place near 15 and 78. We've got the room ready at any hour.
So it goes in sunny, smoky south Cal.

Hi cheezz, we are the same distance from the water - I guess we are just

south far enough to be getting the smoke and ash from the OC fires.

Good news for my sister's house

The man who poured the foundation is working with a bulldozer in the area. He said their corner is safe. Whew! Hope it continues to hold.

 
I think the worst is over and can finally sigh a breath of relief

I got the nerve last night to unpack the cars. The only thing left is the bad air quality, but I'll take that anyday. My heart goes out to all those less fortunate than us who lost their homes. The grandaughter of a friend of my mom's lost their new home they were building as well and the mobile home they were living in temporarily. Now is a good time for me to spring clean and see if we can help them out.
Thank you again everyone for all the kind thoughts sent our way. Maybe in a few days I'll feel like cooking again.
