my 37 year old sprog just totalled her car. She has never had even a small accident. Took a bend a bit wide, corrected but went over a large stone in the road which caused her car to jack-knife straight into the opposite bank!!!!

The x-rays were proclaimed to show no problem, take her home...Sunday we could not do anything. This a.m. I went to fetch the x-rays and was told the surgeon wanted to see me...he showed me a small "impression fracture" nothing to worry about a bit of bed rest and in 2 or 3 weeks all will be well...we went for a second opinion but it was late this afternoon and this time I was shown a fracture right cross the L1!!!! A CT scan (what is this?) is necessary immediately tomorrow am....I am freaking about this all as this time of the 2nd opinion I was told the same thing I heard for my then new husband,39 years ago, a wheelchair bound life could be the result. My husband spent weeks on his back, it was sheer hell for the poor man. It worked out alright and he has been OK for the last 39 years...please let her be OK too.

I am mad that the hospital let her go with a shrug of the shoulders and all is well remarks...and we have had 2 full days pass before we could get things in motion to be checked out and now this.

Well, life does throw unexpected punches, that's for sure.

Joannie, could you be a little bit more specific, I have just been dealing with a lot of things like

this. Where is her injury that they want to do a cat scan on. I had a cat scan on my head to look for skull fractures. To be honest, I was in no condition to question what was being done to me. I was told by my GP that fractures do not always show up at first, I am not sure if I believe that or not. Being wheelchair bound, makes me think it might be a spine injury. If she is moving around now, that is a good sign. The fact that she hasn't been rushed immediately into surgery, is also a good sign.
Oh my, Joannie, it is one thing to go through things like this yourself, that I can handle, but my kids, I would give anything, not to have them hurt. I will think good thoughts for your daughter and your family.

Joanie, thoughts and prayers heading your way for your daughter. (m)

She must be so scared. She is lucky to have you so close to help her through this.

Barb

Dear Joanie, I'm so sorry to hear this.I'm sending your daughter strong, positive, healing thoughts.

Joannie.....

A CAT scan (x-rays in slices throught the section to be viewed) will show them if there is any displacement associated with the fracture. An L1 fracture, by itself is just a healing issue. If there is displacement, then there may be spinal cord involvement.
If your daughter has no numbness or muscle weakness, then this might not be an issue.
Best to have the CAT scan, but if no significant findings, a period of rest/minimal exertion would do the trick.

Our prayers and good wishes are heading your way.

Having a doctor in the family, I can understand how this easily happens....

So often that little hairline break can't be seen except at just the right angle and with expert eyes. It is probably nothing, but since they missed it the first time, I'm sure they are now trying to be overly cautious. My daughter was in a major accident 3 years ago - was unconscious for 1-1/2 days and had a cracked sternum. It is just amazing what the human body can take and bounce back from. I'm putting her in my prayers - she is in God's capable hands and he loves her even more than you do smileys/smile.gif

(((Joanie))) I will hold your sprog in my heart, in perfect health. is this the same

daughter who dove off the boat into a man-O-war? she's a surviver sweetie, hang in there.

joannie, sorry to hear about your daughter's accident, sending you loads of well wishes to all....
