What I really like about these recipes is that they are no-nonsense, good quick nutrition for your pups when you haven't had time to whip up a batch of deluxe stew. With appropriate stocked pantry, you can whip up an easy dinner for your dog in no time. Most of these are from veterinarians who cook for their dogs.

Also, couple things to keep in mind. Since these food are very high in water content compared to dry kibble, it will take more food to give your dog the appropriate calories and nourishment. The ratio for dogs is roughly 1/3 protein/meat, 1/3 grain, and 1/3 vegetables and fruit. These recipes may be too much or too little for your dog. You'll have to calculate your dogs calorie needs and calculate the recipes to see that you're meeting that goal.

Thank you Richard!

You put a lot of work into this and it's much appreciated. In the short time we've been feeding them "doggie goulash" we are amazed at the changes. Dee is no longer pink and both girls are more energetic and less gassy. I'm a little upset with myself for not having made the change sooner.

It's not inconvenient or costly at all. We are fairly isolated so it's about a 2 hour trip to buy premium kibble. The dollar amount is a wash when you add gas + kibble + time costs versus picking up the ingredients during the weekly visit to the grocery store and then letting it cook while I'm busy doing other things.

I guess the world is going to the dogs cause I can't find recipes for cat food! "-)) Richard, what

are putting in the search engine? I'll have to ask my vet too.

Randi, I'm having the same problem.

I've found plenty of warnings regarding cat nutritional needs and what not to feed, but nothing that gives the basic requirements or recipes.

I am still looking, tho, and will let you know if I find anything.

thanks Jean, I'll do the same. I did find books on it but it makes me really, really

angry when people put things on the market to take advantage of the tainted food tragedy.

I'll let you know what my vet has to say. I pick up my Kai in about an hour.

here's one for cats.....

ADULT CAT FOOD (FOR 10-POUND CAT)
Adapted from "Small Animal Clinical Nutrition" by Drs. Diane Wilkie, Danielle Rosser and Bonnie Beaver.

2 ounces ground beef (80 percent lean)
1/3 cup instant rice, cooked
2 teaspoons fat (chicken or beef fat or vegetable or fish oil)
1/4 teaspoon bone meal, ground
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch taurine
1/2 of a (9-gram) human adult vitamin-mineral tablet (see note)
Bake, fry or microwave the beef and fat (do not drain). Combine beef with remaining ingredients except for the tablet. Mix well. Serve with the tablet (either in pill form or pulverized and thoroughly mixed with the food).
Note: Feed your cat half the tablet each day.

1 C Water
1/3 C Uncooked brown rice
2 t Vegetable oil
2/3 C Lean ground turkey
2 T Chopped beef liver
1 T Bone meal
1 T Cottage cheese (optional)
Directions
Combine water and rice. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Cool completely before serving.

1 Can White chicken in water
1/2 C Rice
Directions
I prepare for 5 cats so my measurements may be off for your pets needs.

1. Boil the rice
2. Open the can of chicken ( drain cans water)
3. When rice is done drain and put on the plate
4. Put the chicken on top of the rice (breaking it into smaller pieces cuz of big chunks can make a cat gag and/or choke)
5. Serve to a very grateful cat or in my case cats

I do this maybe once a month as a specail treat meal

I posted the books earlier

where I got these recipes. There are cat food recipes too in those books. I don't have a cat : )... I will post some of the cat recipes tomorrow. Basically the same foods that you feed the dog, except the cat needs much more protein/meat than a dog. I'm not sure of the ratio, I'll look that up.

Not all pet food companies are using Chinese ingredients...

There are several American and Canadian dog & cat foods that have not been tainted as they have their own factories and use US ingredients...

thanks for the info and recipes. it will be a few days before I can go through

all of it and I might have some questions after that.

my precious Kai has some kind of liver problem and has been fighting for her life since early sunday morning. I'm certainly not thinking clearly at this point. we hope to know the cause by this afternoon.

My cat still thrives on Science Diet. BUt isn't this just such a disgusting and worrisome outlook

for the future of world trade and international confidence? How upsetting!

whew...... finally there's improvement....

Kai's temp is normal and only one eye glazed over. she's showing interest in food and she got up for me. she even purred for me...... smileys/smile.gif we need to check the liver toxin level again but I might be able to take her home this afternoon.

I went to bed last night wondering if I was going to have her put down today but still holding on to hope. we still don't know what caused her liver to go whack'O on her. she just turned 6 last month.

thanks for asking smileys/smile.gif
