RECIPE: Rec: Stuffed Italian Sandwich

RECIPE:
Risking the "old fogy" label, I will say that at the beginning there were serious, adult programs

which included Julia, Mario (actually he is about the only one who never disappoints), 2 Fat ladies (well, not always serious) an Irish Lady Daria something, Ming Tsio, Rosengarten. Rickman(?) and Hanover with the restaurant program. There weren't all these hi jinks and glitz. But I guess you're right; now,it's all show biz.

That's very interesting. When she was here on Cape Cod awhile back, she spent her

$40 in some strange places. Notably a plate of overpriced pasta at a fine but very pricey restaurant which is in no way a budget destination. We could have steered her to not only cheaper places but much more interesting ones. To top it off she had a Cranberry cooler drink for nine dollars!! That's almost 25 percent of her daily budget! Yes, I do believe she chooses her own venues--and stupidly at that!

Yep, that's the one all right. And most of her food...

looks just plain disgusting. She and Ina Garten both spend a lot of time congratulating themselves on how perfect everything tastes, but at least Ina can cook.

Warning: Bashing inside

What I don't get about Sandra Lee... BEYOND the fact that she literally has them change the set curtains EVERY single show to match her top... is that she manages to be even more pretentious than Martha Stewart on her worst day ever while simultaneously using ingredients such as canned frosting.

At least Martha's pretentiousness comes from using the best and freshest ingredients.

AND Sandra Lee uses the word "tablescape" with a perfectly straight face.

Even though I find her annoying, a friend of mine (who is a friend of hers) says she's kind

funny and generous.
Invited a group from my area to attend her wedding and paid for everything. Air, hotel, meals and even tours of the area.
No diva there.

They swoon and gaze heavenward in ecstasy, seconds before they could possible really taste it.

Joe, LOL, that has driven me nuts for as long as they've been doing it.

One has to put the food in the mouth, close it, then chew, and hopefully swallow, before one knows what the tastes are alla bout. But everytime the fork gets near the joker's mouth, she's already rolling her eyes and mugging for the camera. I tried to watch her a couple times to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the longer I watched, the more annoying she became. Now she is permanently blacked out around here. As well as Giada (another eye-rolling swooner looking for a camera to mug for.)

I like Rachel Ray but Sandra Lee has to

go with the outfits matching the mixer and the food and curtains. I just recently noticed her outfit at the beach scene matched everything around her even a boat. Just yesterday she matched her outfit and the kitchen with the chocolate morsels in her recipe. Okay, I know watching her is getting addictive just to see the color scheme.

Is Lidia a good one to watch??? She is all I've seen on....

our channels for ages. Even then I seldom get to see her all the way through as we get her on Sundays. (Too much else happining to sit in front of the TV on a nice day.)
We used to get the Fat Ladies on a Tues. evening... I LOVED them and Delia Smith, I like her. Oh, and Jamie Oliver, I do enjoy his shows, no matter that some don't like him...but none of these shows have been on here in the Caribbean for years.
We do get the Gorden Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen...that is one I don't like...bashing, putting down and silly reality show,,,not my cup a tea!!

Yes, she is from the Trieste region which had switched between Italy and Austria for most.....

of history and is currently part of Italy. Her cooking is influenced by Austria but she is deeply knowledgeable about all regional Italian cooking. I think Marie Esposito of Chaio Italia has also vastly improved over the years in her presentation. She used to be heavily Southern Italy but has recently expanded north. And of course, my favorite, Mario Batali!!

What do you guys think of Nick Stellino? Part of the chefs' series...

coming locally in a couple of months. I plan on actually GOING to this one ;o)

I have 3 of his cookbooks, they contain good classic pasta dishes and the Mediterranean

one has good recipes also. He has a basic tomato sauce and meat sauce recipe that some of the recipes use and if you take the time to make those, it's worthwhile. Thanks for reminding me haven't gotten them out in awhile.

Doncha love the EVOO references? BTW, one of the 2 Fat Ladies passed away >>

several years ago so sadly we won't be seeing these shows anymore, although their books are wonderful, we have a few in the family. It was Jennifer Paterson who died, she drove the motorbike on the show.
