Ruth Reichl's on Making a Better Hummus. I have seen the light! Oh my...SO creamy.

You will be amazed. Happily amazed. But be wary of American tours...they actually seated us in a

separate area where we had our own catering. I was so bummed and sincerely feel complaining Americans have caused this situation. I had one man asked me what "hearts of palm" were and when I told him they would be great on his salad, he said he wasn't eating anything he didn't know. Then he loaded up on iceberg lettuce and a baked potato wrapped up in foil.

See what I mean.

Prior to the trip, I worried about security. I worried about language difficulties. I worried about taking my elderly mom half-way around the world.

I NEVER THOUGHT to worry about losing 15 varieties of hummus and warm flatbreads once I joined up with the tour.

My Dad was of that taste when it came to food. That would be of the "no taste at all" group.

I think it has to do with being raised in a small town, and living on a small farm. Meat and potatoes was the order of the day, nearly every day.

Water gravy was something he craved until he died. Whatever "water gravy" is...

Julia Child did more for life in these United States than any non-war-time President, if you ask me.
